Paid Traffic Strategy Help

Does anyone have any Paid Traffic Strategies experience they care to share. I know paid is the fastest way to traffic that I currently know of. Then go after bigger fish. But I also know you can go broke real fast if not done correctly. Any resources you can refer me to that are solid and up-to-date. Affiliates will be stage II for me. But I feel like I need to dial in the sales process and work through a few bugs first to help with conversions.

I am trying to price my site right now so that I can afford to play the paid traffic game. But I also know that I need to be able to price right so I can't go to low or high and build a strong sales funnel. I bought the 7 steps to 7 figures and love all the stuff in it. However, the part on life of member calculations are not realistic for brand new site as I have no way to gauge that yet. So while that concept works great for those who have made it already I don;t see it as practical for new start-up trying to gauge paid spending and ROI.

I am thinking $9.97 month or $99 per year for my site and will be a personal development related site. Then have some One Time Offers to try and convert free members that did not go paid to yearly for say $49.97, $59.97, $69.97, $79.97, $89.97 although I am not sure on the frequency to set these meaning every week drop the offer or every so many days.

I also plan to have a solid free 7 day video course. That will be used to establish the Know Like Trust relationship to help with free to paid conversions.

I think my sales funnel will look something like this: Free Member > Convert to Monthly or Yearly > If no purchase then OTO Series For Yearly > Up-sell other products

I built a spreadsheet to model some things for PPC and sales funnel so I can try and understand conversions and ROI to help with the traffic strategy.

The site will have some Buddypress community features and have both Free and Paid upgrade for better features as well as weekly course lessons.

I have one traffic course I got by Eric Louviere who talks about tweaking conversions and the sales funnel then you can afford to pay for the traffic and I love his strategies. However, 35% conversion on free signup and 10% does not seem realistic when most of research I have read talks about 2-5% on front-end. Best I have ever done on a lead form in the past is about 5% steady with 7% peaks for the auto industry and that was for highly targeted SEO traffic.

So I am looking for any feedback I can get to help with success to include the following or anything else you care to add.

1. Best resources for traffic today that I can buy right and yet be quality

2. Any proven guides or tactics that actually are current and work today for Facebook, Other PPC networks etc. you have success with

3. Any ideas on what to expect to pay per click. I have used various tools out there to look where the average person would look Google Adwords etc. But the numbers look very hard...!

4. Any ideas about what I can expect for sales page conversion for free members and conversion for upgrading to paid members

5. Is my price to cheap to play this game? If I bump it up then I am concerned with conversions and retention.

6. What type of ads or advertising have you found to work best?I do realize this is a hard find sometimes as each industry and product can be different.

Thank You in Advance

    Google adwords would be a good place to start - if you go with adwords ;

    1. Set up a landing page to get subscribers onto a mailing list and send traffic into that page
    2. Set up an email sequence to build rapport, introduce your products, promote affiliate offers to subscribers
    3. Set up an ad campaign to target your ideal customer and turn them into a subscriber - use ads written to attract subscribers and deter everyone else

    Part 3: Start with a small daily budget (around $5.00/day) when you first launch your adwords campaign - you do this for two reasons;

First - it stops you from overspending before you know what your conversions are - you need to keep your campaign running consistently to get reliable/usable stats
Second - it stops Google paying more than you want for clicks
(when you set up a small daily budget google will try to get you as many clicks for your budget as possible - this keeps cpc low initially)

When you set up your campaign start with around 20 ad groups with 10-20 keywords per group and 4 different ads per ad group - targeting your ideal customer and what he/she is searching for.

Each day after your campaign goes live, add new targeted ad groups (3-5 per day) - this helps the Google algorithm to go and look for new cheap clicks in new groups. Try to think about your target market/ideal customer and all the different angles (places) they might look for help - these angles give you your ad groups and keywords

Monitor your account daily to see which ad groups are giving you the best traffic and which groups are costing too much money - remove those costing you too much per click and/or per lead.

Make sure you have tracking set up and monitor your campaign closely until you see stats that suggest you are generating leads at a price you are happy with - when you do, then scale your campaign gradually (spend more money daily)

PM me if you need a helping hand!

      neilashworth,

Thanks for the very detailed information that you provided. My membership site is both free and paid upgrade and when a new member signs up for the free version. I plan to have a seven day auto responding course vs email that actually brings them back to the site each day to watch a new video. I am assuming the sales page that I use for the membership site itself can be used instead of building a separate opt in page 4 email list alone. Otherwise I would have to bring them in through the email and then get them on the site. So my thoughts here are to build a squeeze page specifically for the free membership part of the site and work on conversions. Do you agree?

I could even have multiple squeeze pages based on the different ad groups to make the conversions even better.

I agree to Neil for most of the part but my opinion differs when it comes to Adgroups and Keywords. I suggest going for lesser keywords per adgroup (say 5 very closely related keywords per adgroup). This should help you create more targeted adgroups. For ads, you could perhaps start with two variations per adgroup. Now, my method is to
    1. create two entirely different ads per adgroup
    2. monitor for a while which one performs better
    3. pause the inferior one, say after a week.
    4. create another version of the better ad with slight variation.
    5. Keep optimizing.

lol @ not realistic. You think I'm some newbie wannabe?

30% conversions on a squeeze page (opt in) is NOT unrealistic

      After they opt in...

10% conversions on that OTO is NOT unrealistic either.

I'm not saying you can go get 10% on the frontend salesletter (direct cold traffic to a salesletter or VSL), but AFTER they opt in, yes, indeed. 10% or higher.

Traffic >> Squeeze Page (30%) >> to OTO (10% of those who opted in).

      totally realistic and actually expected!!

Unless of course your copy sucks then well, get better copywriting.

        Eric,

I really do sincerely thank you for the course and I gained a lot of powerful insight as it relates to paid traffic and affiliate traffic strategies. This new venture I am working on I really want to try PPC again as its been many years sine I have done so. Affiliate marketing I know is a given.

Because I have a Free / Paid upgrade membership site I am working on I really do not see the need to have another layer of just creating an (opt in) to get them on a list to then try and get them to what is already free. The free membership is the (opt in). So at least I think..lol I could be wrong but from a conversion perspective I can't see where this would vary that much as long as the signup page is controlled like a true squeeze page.

However, I'm not new at this either and have been in the Internet business since 2001 with over 20,000 unique visitors a day on one property alone I built all SEO. Have optimize the hell out of conversions for lead quote forms for the auto industry and have never seen any conversion anywhere near what you're talking about.

I have even have friends in the auto industry that spend millions of dollars per month on advertising and no such conversion has ever been talked about. I might add these conversion signup forms are very targeted and free sign ups no cost involved.

However, I totally agree with you conversions can make or break a business. You also sold me completely in this course on that I needed to rethink PPC instead of just thinking SEO. Part of the way that you sold me on this is because it's all about conversions in tweaking the sales funnel. Your course this part of the reason that I started this thread.

However, if you look at the larger scale companies that have millions of dollars per month budget ad spend. Nobody is talking anywhere near the percentage of conversion that you're talking about. We are talking companies that tweak tweak tweak everything they possibly can to squeeze as much possible conversion out of the pages and at best, most were seen is 5% and 10% tops.

There are a lot of philosophies too many things in life. Some work for some people in some industries and some do not. There are many different traffic gurus that even talk about don't worry about conversion worry more about the life of a customer. You see there are all kinds of philosophies to business. But I do agree with you on conversions are very important.

Because I am a man of fact-finding and not just blindly buying into what is told or spoken is why that I am also here asking varying opinions and not just talking yours. A solid strategy is built upon the triangulation of truth, listening and hearing many truths zeroing in on the absolute truth.

Therefore, I would kindly ask you since you decided to enter into this discussion to please provide proof to back up the conversions that you claim. Please provide that proof not only for the conversions of one campaign at one particular point in time, but for multiple campaigns working in today's world today over a period of time. If you can prove that to me. Then I will, by all means, bow to your knowledge, for I am not an operator of EGO, but instead one of finding facts.

I have spent enough time in Internet marketing world to know there are those that teach and those that do. I have also spent enough time in Internet marketing to know the similarity to the California gold rush. There are two different business models, one that gains from finding the gold and one that gains from selling shovels to gain the gold. I am still learning who you are. Please don't take this personally.
