Are conversions possible without a Landing Page?

I've been doing quite a bit of test marketing without a landing page to see if it's possible to use PPC just by direct linking and get conversions. So far, haven't had any conversions by direct linking. Curious to see if anyone has used PPC with an offer and gotten results without having a website.
#conversions #landing #page
  • Two keys. First, drive relevant traffic to the offer. If your keywords are too generic, a fewer percentage will convert. Second, and more important, but that you have no control over, the page has to convert. Ask yourself, if I was on this page, is it doing a good job in convincing me to buy here rather than a competitor? Traffic will make quick decisions to stay and find out more or leave. So if the answer is that traffic will be quickly convinced in seconds that this is the product for them, they will buy at a high rate and you will have a winner.

Conversions are definitely possible without using landing pages but it only works with certain amount of niches. This is only applicable to niches where a publisher gets paid when the end user submits his email address and the publisher gets credited for it. If you are comfortable designing LP's then what you can do is split test your traffic with direct linking as well as an LP and then come to conclusion as to which page gives you the higher ROI.

      Hi apugrant,

While it is possible to have advertisements that do not point at a landing page, technically speaking all PPC advertisements must have a landing page, else they will not be approved. For example radio, newspaper, magazine, and television ads typically do not have landing pages, but they are not PPC. A landing page is the webpage where customers end up after they click your ad.

I realize that you were actually asking if conversions are possible without your own webpage, so I just want to clarify that a landing page is whatever webpage users land on, regardless of who owns the webpage.

Yes, it is possible to get conversions by direct linking to affiliate offers, however there are many risks and issues associated with direct linking specifically, and affiliate marketing in general.

Direct linking to affiliate offers is like marketing with both hands tied behind you back while blindfolded. You typically are not able to measure engagement metrics like bounce rates, time on site, pageviews, and event tracking. You cannot make changes to content, let alone conduct content experiments. You cannot measure or analyse issues with checkout process, you cannot see metrics like value per page, etc.

On top of those issues, the affiliate marketing industry is plagued with skimming, shaving, scrubbing , and other dodgy practices.

You best bet is to build your own webpage, do not send traffic to the merchants sales page, but send them directly to the checkout page. Also, do not invest heavily in any one offer, you need to test many offers and optimize your affiliate marketing be quickly dropping any offer that isn't currently yielding a profit. Instead invest in technology that allows your to quickly create offer pages on your website, conduct A/B split tests, and track user engagement.

It is possible to make money with direct linking but it's always advisable to test landing pages
