Hi Warriors,

I just started dipping into affiliate marketing 4 months ago. I enjoy doing this on the side and have a regular Mon-Fri 9 to 5 job. So I've made 4 sites. None of them have made me much money but I think my newest site is pretty cool. There's quite a few affiliate links on it and i'm waiting for the results now.

Yesterday I tried my hand at ppc with Bing. I put $15 in the account, I picked 64 keywords. According to Bing I had 13,000 impressions, 42 clicks, CTR 0.30%, ave position of 4.3 and a quality score of 8/10.

Good or bad? I'm just curious if i'm on the right path. I will eventually figure it all out...but i'm still very new to all of this. Any input is appreciated!

Thanks

From the action you've taken, it doesn't sound bad at all.

Looks like you can get your CTR up a little...

And do that by editing your ad copy (or make a few more).

    All in all...

It comes down to getting positive ROI.

That should be the 'benchmark' by overall how well you do.

But keep it up, you're definitely on the right path.

Yeah, it sounds like you're starting off on the right foot.

I would second jamescanz suggestion that you try to imporve your CTR on you ads. One thing that helps a lot is to put the keyword you're targeting in your ad, one in the title and one in the body. That might mean splitting your campaign up into multiple adgroups with realated KWs, but that something you should be doing anyway.

I would also suggest setting up a tracking system as soon as you can. Prosper202 is a good option. The sooner you start collecting data the more it will benefit you.

My suggestion is to use a far smaller number of keywords. You just want just buyer keywords. You will be targeting your audience much better this way. Be sure to use product name, website name, XYZ for sale type keywords, etc. Be sure you check the affiliate programs TOS to make sure you do not violate anything. Some affiliate programs do not allow certain names as keywords. Not a good decision IMO but you do need to follow this.

    hey there,

I think you could benefit by doing a few things to help your campaigns. create more ad groups and split the keywords between more ads so your relevancy is better.

Also add negative keywords to help keep your campaigns more relevant and potentially have more buyers.

Your not doing bad at all but aim to get a CTR click through rate of 5 or 10% or more then you will benefit from cheaper clicks.

    Tips for improving CTR:

    • improve ad copy add more numbers or questions?
    • test ads and monitor keywords.
    • come up with a bidding plan. either start low then scale up or big high and drop your bids accordingly.
    Have a great day
