Hi all,

finding it hard to make Google Adwords take my money, every time I raise a bid they then suggest a higher front page bid. Also I noticed they no longer like long-tail keywords and label them "low search/ disabled".

My question: If I use a broad match + modifier i.e.: +retail +business will my ad show for variants like "retailing business" and/or "retail businesses"?

Or would I be safer having both +Retail and +Retailing?

If you are spending any reasonable amount with the Big G why not just call them up and say

"I'm trying to give you guys money here...why is it not working?"

You may find things change after you have a chat.

    Hi Louis,

AdWords doesn't actually set the bids on their platform, it is your competitors that set the bids needed to reach the first page. Having said that, AdWords does use a Quality Score for your keyword that can change over time based on the relative performance of your ads as compared to your competitors' ad performance.

Write better ads than you competitors and you just might see the minimum bid cost go down.

As to your question about variants, Adword makes extensive use of keyword stemming, so yes you ad will show for close variants.
