Hello,

As said in the title, I am wondering if there is any tool that can provide the bids of competitors for adwords. I've SEMRush but they only provide keywords, ad copies, ad history and CPC but they don't include bids of competitor website. Can Spyfu or any other tool do provide the bids as well?

Or actual bids are something only known to Google?

Adwords itself give you the average cost of keywords!
OF course max CPC is a secret!

You probably couldn't get me or perhaps I couldn't understand your reply

I am talking about competitor bids. Website X is bidding for a keyword, is there any tool that can tell me what is their bid for that keyword?

To be honest with you, I wouldn't suggest putting too much effort into finding out what bids competitors are using.

What would you do if you found out? Use the same bids? Not a very good decision because a smart PPC bidding strategy would depend on several different factors such as conversion rates, profit per conversion, quality scores etc. And they will most certainly differ from yours.

And also people often don't realize that some of the PPC advertisers are actually clueless about what they're doing and are actually losing money, so that would obviously not be a good decision to copy someone who's actually not making profit.

      Thanks for your reply!

I agree with what you said, true!

But still I need to know if there is any tool that can do this? Anyone...

I find it good to monitor competitor CPCs for several reasons.

      1. Brand CPCs - are any competitors paying over the odds on your brand terms - if so it is likely that they are bidding directly on your brand so you are under attack.

      2. Is anyone achieving a higher positions than you for a lower CPC? If so this highlights a problem, maybe low QS on your behalf? Or the competitors ad is well recieved by traffiic and they have a really high QS - so you should take this opportunity to work on this keyword to increase your competition in the market before you realise your high CPCs are not worth it and your competitor wins!

p.s I use a competitor monitoring tool called Adthena.

  • Actual bids are something known only to Google. The numbers reported by these services are educated guesses although having checked out of curiosity just last week on Spyfu, it happened to be a very good guess.

The thing is, bids can change, and sometimes quite dramatically. It's a moving target.

What you have to ask yourself is, is there a benefit to knowing a competitor's bid? Does knowing this fact help you in any way improve your campaign? It doesn't and I agree with Bright Future.

There seems to be a widespread thinking that PPC is about managing your bids. It's not. It's mainly about managing your ads.

There is another way to determine what others are paying, more or less. Use the keyword tool. If it suggests a bid of $1, you can be sure that's the going rate for the top advertisers. It may mean that those with QS of 10 are actually paying closer to $0.50 since the bid suggestions assumes you have an average QS. You can be sure that most times, the top few positions are held by advertisers with QS of 7 to 10.
