hi everyone, need some advice. Would it be viable if i setup an amazon affiliate store, but the traffic only comes from ppc, or other paid sources (e.g. fb ads)

so its not a real store. I use a wp plugin, so when people click on buy, they will get redirected to amazon. and i earn the commission if they make a purchase.

However i'm not getting organic traffic to my site. I intend to drive people to my site via paid traffic. As such would it still be possible?

1) should i start on a very niche store? like vacuum cleaners, or a broad category like everything electronics from kindles to cameras, to iphones, smart watches, etc

2) whats a good ad channel to drive people to my store?

thanks!

    Hey,

I was looking into this last week. I found a few competitors who are driving PPC traffic to their website from Adwords. They were Amazon affiliates and it was also a review website. It looks like a good idea.

So to answer your question...yes it is possible to do this. Not sure how long those guys were around, but worth it to do some research on them and replicate what they did. Make sure you follow Google guidelines for your website.

I would start off with a very specific niche and test it out.

Google could be competitive depending what you get into so maybe start with BingAds.

    Good luck.

You can't predict the results an ad campaign before you test the traffic source, funnels and creatives. Promoting Amazon via PPC is great but yes, you will need a landing page or blog to be compliant with the Amazon operating agreement. Amazon is one of my clients.

Amazon is good for affiliate marketing. But the commissions are low...

I have attempted this type of thing many times without any real success. If I broke even, I was very fortunate. The commissions on Amazon are just too low for PPC. I've had ads on Facebook that were only costing me around 10 cents per click (after much a/b split testing and fine tuning), but I still couldn't squeeze out a profit.

If you do want to try it, I would go for a very expensive niche where items are sold for $1,000+ (riding lawnmowers, high end jewelry, professional cameras / camcorders, high end bicycles, etc).

The only thing I have found to be successful as far as Amazon Associates is concerned is creating review sites. I have a couple of review sites that do pretty well with Amazon Associates, but of course I rely on Google organic traffic big time.

Anyway, sorry I couldn't offer any good pointers, but as someone who has spent thousands trying to make PPC work with Amazon, I would focus your energy on other marketing avenues or affiliate partners.
