Using trademarked names in Google Adwords

I have a friend who has designed a device that fixes certain codes on Toyota vehicles. Normally this code costs thousands to fix, but his item is only $200 or so. We want to do some advertising on Google AdWords.

My thought is that customers will search for "Pxxx Toyota", or some variation of that.

We tried to do an ad with the title "Fix Toyota Code Pxxx", but Google would not allow it because of the word "Toyota". We don't want the ad to show if customers search for "Pxxx Ford" or anthing else besides Toyota, and we don't want customers to click on it if they don't have a Toyota.

Is my best option to just change the add to "Fix Trouble Code Pxxx" and then use negative keywords (Put Ford, Chevrolet, etc...) in the list?

Or is there a way to include the word "Toyota" that isn't a huge hassle?

Nothing to stop you targeting a brand in your keywords but you can't use trademarked brands in your ads....

    ...unless you're a Toyota dealer.

You will always pay more for targeting a brand than the brand owner themselves so you may want to think about how you can get the people who desire the outcome go about their searches.

Think about how headlines may flag the desired vehicle owner who is searching for the outcome...

    ...maybe...

    Whattha? 2K to fix!

    Hi,

One can not use trademarks in ads, Google is totally against it,

Campaigns using trademarks do not even get approved,

One can cloak and use the services either.

It depends otherwise google is against the trademark work . if you have the relevant licence and you need approval letter from the trademark owner you can use the keywords and name in the ad campaign

No you can't use trademarked terms on AdWords. Forget it and come up with another plan.

It's not true that you cannot use trademark or company names on Adwords. I am doing it right now by using a competitor keyword to display comparable ads. It's only if that company has requested Google to not allow bids on their trade names. So don't think just because you can't do Toyota, you will not be able to target another trade name.

This is adwords directly backing up what I say: https://support.google.com/adwordspo...wer/6118?hl=en

I think the first guy is right at the top (Oziboomer). Try and think of the solution keywords if you can. What I am not clear on though is if Google blocked you bidding on the keyword "Toyota" or stopped you using it in your actual ad text? If it was just the ad text then bid on the keyword Toyota and make sure your ads only show on Toyota searches and add the negative keywords like you said, then have the ad copy just say "Code Changer" or whatever it is.

I believe cloaking is the best way which I prefer when stuck somewhere, but yes you must be master of cloaking before trying.
