How to get cheap(er) Adwords Clicks sometimes 1/3 of the price or less

One of the most overlooked ways to get really cheap clicks on Google Adwords is using the Display Network, but it won't work unless you do it right.

Please don't underestimate this information. It will seem so simple, but it works really well. Let me give you a successful example. I took a client who was advertising in the FOREX (Foreign Exchange Trading) market and took his click average price down from 21c/35c, to 7c/11c using this very method. I know I could create a WSO for this and would charge $10 or $20 bucks. However I decided to post it for free, but please don't treat it like free information.

First this will not work for really tight niches or where there are few websites or forums who carry adwords within the same subject area or niche. But if there are lots of websites who place adsense on their site, then this will work.

Here is the biggest secret to this method and WHY people fail when testing image display ads.

Very often a person will create an ad in just one of the available sizes.

Why is this a problem?

Lets assume a person creates an ad 250px x 250px There may be 1000 websites that could display your ad based on the matching keyword, but only 50 of those sites actually place ads of the 250px x 250px size. In case you did not know, when a website owner places ads from Google, they choose ad sizes that fit within their content. Google cannot place ads of a different size on their website.

When people try image display ads in a size that very few websites display, their ad never gets shown, and the results are poor. If you don't realize this, you will conclude that the display network ads don't work. In truth your ad was only shown on 5% of the network and they may have been low traffic sites.

So now you know the secret. You must create a copy of your ad in EVERY available image size. This way, every website that can display your ad, will display your ad.

Yes this will take some time but a lot of the sizes are very similar. Usually variations on a square, rectangle, tower etc.

The next secret to this method is to create simple looking text based image ads. WARNING. it must not look like an adwords text ad due to adwords policy, but so long as it's just text it works much better than images. This is due to image blindness and how people filter out the ads when looking at a website.

That is the full story. Please realize this simple tip is powerful. The FOREX company I mentioned before were spending $1000 a month and when I did this they got more targeted clicks for $300 a month. They were ecstatic as I saved them nearly $10k a year! I use this all the time with clients now, when the niche is right of course.

      Hi Iamthetwo,

Sorry to inform you, your post is a little out of date.

      This statement is factually incorrect:

As of May 5th, 2015 it is no longer necessary to create all those different image ad sizes. If you have banners ads covering 300x250, 728x90 and 160x600, Google will automatically resize them. Those 3 ad sizes are all you need to create to get you ads displayed in nearly every size format and nearly all websites on the Display Network.

Also, AdWords has a built-in tool, the Ad Gallery, for quick and easy display ad creation. Creating effective display ads in all the needed formats using industry standard image ad templates is not only quick and easy, but all templates in the Ad Gallery are free.

        HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED.

I don't recommend this. Because I use text based ads and I don't like the distortion on the text edges which make the ads look cheap. I resize while the text is still in a vector format and then save to raster (pixels).

SO NO It's not out of date. If you want Google re-sizing your ads then by all means do this. If you want to maintain control, don't. Also I would NEVER use the built in ad creator, those designs have terrible conversions.

Pretty much any banner suffers with banner blindness and only text based ads convert well in my testing.

(Not sure why you are sorry to inform me?)
