I have had success posting on the forum and getting guidance with a local Adwords campaign i am doing for a friend/client. However, I think I may have burnt out some good guys who have helped me here . If anyone coaches or knows a good PPC coach please let me know. My client understands I am learning and thus things are slow due to my playing it safe and trying to get a good understanding of how to optimize a low traffic product he sells before creating campaigns that have more traffic. I also used a coupon from Bluehost to offset any expense he could incur while I learn. My thoughts are once I understand how to run a successful local campaign I can do this for other local business owners, my own products or affiliate marketing.

Here is a report from the last two weeks. It seems that not only are my ads being shown now but have a top position for the one ad group Tubular Barrier Gates.
I don't understand what's happening with the other ad groups. I believe my client won't get much traffic for this particular item in this area. I want to make sure I have done all I can do to optimize this campaign before creating new ones for his other services.

1. Should I add location and call extensions?
2. Should I be overly concerned with the quality score if the score is 6/10 and avg ad position is 1?
3. Once I have done all that I can to optimize this campaign I will create new campaigns for this client. At that point in time I will need to bill him for my services. Is there a standard fee for setting up and monitoring Adwords campaigns? Should I just agree upon some hourly rate?

    Greetings,

As far as local coaching is concerned, I can help you with it.

    Now back to your questions.

    1. Should I add location and call extensions?
Definitely, Not only it will increase your quality score (high quality score = less costs), but will also help you with gaining more trust and generating more calls because they can see your number straight on your ad and having a physical location address brings greater trust.

    2. Should I be overly concerned with the quality score if the score is 6/10 and avg ad position is 1?

Yes quality score should never be ignored, even if you are at number 1 position, the reason lie's with Google rating your site, and having a higher quality score could reduce a lot of your costs for the same spot (position 1).

    3. Once I have done all that I can to optimize this campaign I will create new campaigns for this client. At that point in time I will need to bill him for my services. Is there a standard fee for setting up and monitoring Adwords campaigns? Should I just agree upon some hourly rate?

Actually it matters, some decide by the hours they spend on someone's campaign, some decide by % of spending and some charge a fixed fee's.

Good luck and let me know if you need my services.

    Regards

  • You are still mixing themes. You have "parking gates" in a group called Tubular Barrier Gates. Maybe they are the same or similar, I don't know. But I would split among different types of gates, even if they are the same. This way, you can have ads that speak the same language to what the search was for. My guess is your ad mentions tubular gate since that's the name of your group. That may be one of the reasons your QS is very poor on most keywords.

    >> 1. Should I add location and call extensions?

It wouldn't help much in this case. You need to understand the basics first. Simply adding ad extensions will not solve your problem.

    >> 2. Should I be overly concerned with the quality score if the score is 6/10 and avg ad position is 1?

Yes. Your QS is an indication of how well you are doing. QS of 6 is not too bad, just above average. I like 7 and more. The problem is that most of your keywords getting impressions are poorer.

You must be bidding a high amount to get such high average position. I see you have it on auto-bid with max of $24. I would never do that. I also question that you need to bid that high for these products.

But that's what happens when you do bid high and a low QS. You need to bid high to get great position and end up paying more than you really need to.

How you charge a client is up to you. Personally, for a small campaign like this, I charge a fixed monthly fee. No surprises by the client and it's always the same. They are not paying just for work done but for the knowledge and experience. Doctors for example don't charge you hourly for the time spent in the office. It's a fee for consultation and each procedure is the same price, no matter if it took 10 minutes or 50.

    Good afternoon sir,

I will try to answer as accurately as possible considering my knowledge.

    For what concerns your questions:

    1) You should definitely add locations and call extentions. That will just bring in more people, since they will be able to consider whether to contact you or not just by taking a look at your advertise. It is really important and I would also recommend you to be less generic when using those keywords: it will maybe decrease the amount of people viewing your advertise, but those who will see it will be truly interested since they have found EXACTLY what they've been looking for.

    2) For what concers quality score, let's say something about it. Google gives your keyword a QS based on how close they keyword is relatively to the website's topic. Let's say that your website is about Fitness. Adding a generic keyword will not benefit you and google will attribute your keyword a low QS, causing a biggest price due to the fact that the keyword is not strictly related to what you advertise. Now, even though having a 6/10 score might seem not bad, it truly is. In order to have a good quality score, you should have AT LEAST 8/10.

    3) Now, for this point, there is not much I could say. Basically, it is just up to you. You have to decide whether to get paid hourly, or have a % of the income.

Hope my answers will help you out.
If you do have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask me.
