Feedback on my Facebook Ad

Hi all. I'm a novelist, and quite new at advertising. I'm trying my hand at gathering subscribers via Facebook ads at the moment. So far my relevance is not as great as I'd like it to be, and the CPC is rather high, so I'm hoping for any and all suggestions on Headline, Copy, and any other suggestions you might have. Here's the link:

At the moment I'd like to stick with the "two books" image and get the rest of the ad performing as well as possible, so although I know I need to try new images for now I'm holding off on that component (only because I know the headline and copy could be MUCH better and I want to sort that out before I start investing any money in graphic art). Many thanks in advance, I'm looking forward to reading your suggestions!

p.s. hopefully the permalink is now fixed!

  • A few thoughts:

    1) You might try a more minimalist approach with the copy, like "introducing the newest legal thrillers from, etc etc, get them free for a limited time".

    2) Although you and I might at first think people will be intrigued by the fact that they're getting TWO books, I think there's a chance that people are much less likely to be impressed by that than by one book that is marketed with a good cliff hanger. Can you consider doing a separate ad for each and the copy consisting of something from the narrative like "Billy thought today would be an ordinary day, but etc. etc" Maybe one of those question based-cliffhangars with a sort of "find out what happens in the latest legal thriller, etc etc, free for a limited time". That sort of thing. People who enjoy reading are much more interested in the quality of the experience than the quantity of books (in my case at least), so that might be an effective approach.

    3) What sort of targeting are you using? Are you using other famous authors names from that genre in your facebook interests targeting? If not, maybe consider that.

    4) This is just a random though as I haven't used them myself, but maybe consider using one of those book trailers on fiverr.com (go there and search for book trailer or novel trailer) and use that as a facebook video ad?

Good luck and let me know if you have any success. Interested in hearing how this turns out!

Once I get to the page, I'm not seeing much to build trust in WHO i'm giving my info to. Who is Haskell and why should I care? There's no header, logo, media mentions... I personally wouldn't give my email because I don't feel comfortable based on what I see.

That's a great point Mark. I've added a header for now, and I'll look into adding a brief bio or something. If you go to my regular page (haskellbooks.com) you can see all that sort of info there - but I was reluctant to include links in the landing page because I've been told you shouldn't do anything to "send them away". So I'm still working on finding a balance, I guess. Thanks for the excellent advice!

Okay, I added a couple things. A bio section, and a header/footer. Does this work better? Any further suggestions? Thanks!
