Does anyone do this? Is this the way to go to generate sales? I just published a book and was thinking of setting a campaign up for a free promotion that I am running tomorrow for 5 days. Is this worth it? All help appreciated.

There are too many unknowns here to give you a definitive answer, but I would say "no".

What I would do is search for the top 20-30 ranked sites related to your topic, send a no- strings-attached copy and ask for their thoughts. If they like the book then offer to set them up with an affiliate link.

Adwords is expensive and difficult to convert unless you have an established brand and an excellent conversion system in place. The typical ebook probably will not provide you with enough margin, or targeted enough traffic.

So I would focus on specific sites and pages that closely relate. And if I was going to pay for traffic it would be for display ads (could be through the Adwords content network).

For ebooks, I would recommend you to go with FB ads.

You will reach more people of your desired interests.

P.S A nice ebook cover ad directed to your target audience is more effective than simple text ads that seldom get clicked. (Especially, when it comes to ebooks).

I would also recommend you to first get familiar with your audience. Maybe you can write a kick-ass blog post on a similar topic as your ebook and then run an ad for it.

Capture the audience who views your blog post ad using facebook pixels.

Then re-target them with your priced ebook.

    Thanks

  • What is your book about? Is it a novel, a technical manual?

I think using a search campaign for a novel would be difficult and expensive. A display campaign on appropriate sites would lead to better results.

Think about providing the first chapter for free. If people are interested in the story and want to read the rest, a link at the end to your site for buying it. A PDF of that free chapter could also be passed around or found online. There are many book club types of sites where you could place such a file and advertise there.

Adwords is the best traffic source and you can definitely have great success with it if you know how to use it right. I would suggest you to create a landing page a start a small campaign first.

Thanks! What about for affiliate marketing. Is Adwords a good tool to use for say your eCommerce website to potentially drive sales and build an email list. Writing blog post helps big time and using social media but if your starting from scratch would Adwords be a good way to get views for products your selling through affiliate marketing.
