Got a bit excited this morning and decided to launch myself into a Google Shopping campaign. Trouble is I know very little about it.. But If I don't do something I will just stagnate.

While setting it all up it raised a few questions that maybe you guys can help with

1. I run a small business online and bricks & mortar. i do pretty much everything. Should I learn or look to get someone to do this work for me?

2. CPC How do I asses how much to spend? Can I find out what competitors spend?

Also. I do nothing in terms of Adwords, FB ads etc etc Should I be looking at these or can I (what I prefare) run 1 ata time to assess ?

Lastly, are there any good links for me to look at to help me out on this?

Thanks

  • Hey!

It does require some, if not a lof of time to learn and master PPC and also shopping campaigns. If you have the time I'd say go for it. If not, see what options you have.

You can't see what competitors bids/CPCs are.
I would try my way with the bidding, starting relatively low. See if any ads get impressions. If not, try and increase the max CPC.
When impressions start to appear, and as data comes in, you can see your shopping ads' impression share. That is a percantage of how many times your ads were displayed, out of all the eligible search queries. This can give you a rough estimate of your Competitors max CPC. If you are getting 95%visibility, you are outbidding many advertisers.

Its important to create the feed to match Googles guidelines, to get all products approved and for better future optimisations. I recommend looking at Googles help section with shopping best practices.
I recommend that you should be able to set the max CPCs at product level, ID or how its called.

Also, I recommend to put in a remarketing script on your pages, if you want to be able to implement remarketing/dynamic remarketing ads. Doesnt hurt to have a list of cookies ready.

Lastly, I highly recommend an e-mail opt-in offer, so you can get e-mail adresses of potential customers. There are some free services, that will allow you to create nice Down-in-the-Corner popups, saying "get 10% discount on your first order" and then you can integrate it with an email marketing tool. It is Nice to get repeat business.

You can also implement Facebook retargeting, allowing you to target them on Favebook later on.

Remember, those above steps are not done in a couple of hours, so hang in there

Will follow this but not sure on some points and I will ahve to get on with it all myself at least for now.

What is a marketing script? (I use wordpress/woocmmerce if there is a plugin)

      What is FB retargetting ?

      Thanks again

    Hi wholesale blogger,

Shopping campaigns can be a lot of work to setup and maintained, however there are tools that can help.

Woocommerce has a Google Product Feed extension that you can get here:
    https://woocommerce.com/products/google-product-feed/

There are also a number of 3rd party plugin providers that you can fine here:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/search...e+product+feed

You need to diligently maintain your Google Product Feed else Google may Disapprove your product feed.

Here are a few videos on Best Practices for Shopping campaigns that you may find helpful:

Remarketing campaigns are a great way to get your visitors to return to your website. AdWords offers 4 types of Remarketing campaigns:

The best advice I can give is this - You absolutely need to be on the first page of results in the 4-8 company cluster. If one out of 20 people even know how to get to the second page of shopping results, I'd be surprised. Assuming they know what to click to get to that page, instead of being at the very top of search results, you end up lost in a sea of 50 ads. The people who click from that page are what we call "clicker" - they do a whole lot of "shopping" but very little buying.

A lot of this comes down to whether you are selling generic products or name brand products that people search for specifically. If it latter, you can enter specific product searches and see if you are on the first page of results. If they are generics, you'll have to enter more generic search terms and see if you are appearing.

Start at something like 20 cents a click and adjust from there. If you are not on page one, increase the bid; if you are on page one reduce the bid slightly until you find the price point that still has you on page one at the lowest bid price (paying 40 cents for the first a position vs. 25 cents for the last ad position on page one results in the same exposure at a lower cost).

  • So guys

I will start to increase my Max CPC by small increments until I see a change.

But as a guide. How about the Budget per day. I guess that really depends on the CPC and how many times I want the adds to show. Is that right?

Also. and this is a new question really

I have 1 campaign for my products 'Peanut butter' very broad term I know. Im thinking I should add more campaigns for my other products under

    Almond Butter
    Cashew Butter
    Hazelnut Butter

These are not quite as available as peanut butter

I guess. as with my first campaign I should star small and adjust upwards?

    Thanks again

  • OOPs - Have just noticed my ads are marked as 'eligible' and have been for over a week. Not sure why so have emailed Google support. Maybe this is having an effect
