I wonder if I should eliminate low CTR keywords from an adgroup or from my whole account

    Hi,

What are your goals? If you have low CTR keywords, but they drive conversions then dont need to remove it.
But if you have keywords with lower CTR then you need to look at the following aspects before you remove them -
    1. Search queries - check the search queries around those keywords. You might find some queries which can be irrelevant and can be added as negatives
    2. Adcopy Relevancy - Are your adcopies relevant to your themes. Do they atleast have 1-2 of your keywords in adcopies
    3. Did you try adding ad extensions, they help to improve your CTR
    4. What is the avg position of your keywords? Did you look at increasing the adposition

If you yet think it wont work, you can look at pausing the keywords. Suggest you to never delete or remove keywords. Always keep the history, it can be useful, dont know whenever you need them.

  • ctr basically means click through rate and its depends on positioning of ads on your website. if you place ads at relevant positions then click through rate will be more , ctr also depends on content of your website more unique the content is more will be the click through rate.
payclick.com is one of the best site that gives high ads cpm and good ctr

I disagree slightly with the more unique the content is the higher the CTR on your paid ads. I do not totally disagree though but you have to differentiate between search engine ads CTR and on site CTR (which actually is a conversion goal and of couse also has a CTR)
The CTR is calculated as a percentage by dividing clicks through views times 100 of your paid search ads. I believe very much that great content of a page you are pointing your ads to is very very important.
However, you are right if you want to say that the quality of the content and uniqueness will affect the quality score of your keyworks. Therefore the ads will be able to show in a higher positions. The likelihood that the CTR on your ads is therefore high.

It's not really answering the question.

    Say you have an adgroup

Say keyword dating has 5% CTR
say keyword single dating has 1% CTR

    Will removing personemail
    personemail
single dating as a keyword help improves my rank for keyword dating?

      short answer: no
but I would still move that keyword
      longer answer:
maybe... in a long run it will improve.
I would remove " personemail" keyword and put it in a separate adgroup.
by moving low quality keywords you actually increasing the quality of your adgroup...and then in theory your CTR should increase on the other keywords. However, I think that Google looks at the quality score from an entire campaign point of view. Not only on a single adgroup. It also matters how bad your performance history was.

so, I think I could go on and on but I still would move not delete that keyword
