AdWords conversion rate low

Hello,

I have a garage door company and I am running an AdWords campaign. At first, a Google AdWords manager set it up for me and I used technical support a few times trying to optimize the campaign by adding keywords, negative keywords, ad content (call to action, etc.) and extensions (including call out extensions).
All ads are directed to a landing page that I thought is good, however, not only do I not get many clicks per day, the ones that I get do not convert to calls. My ad scores are 6 & 7, and I am wondering what I can do to improve my click through and conversion rates.
I am not 'limited by budget' and my CPC is always matching the 'estimated first bid.'
In average, my ads are ranked 1.5.

Thank you in advance!

There are a lot of factors at work here, but there's a chance you're not showing for all searches even if you're showing an average position of 1.5. Try adding a column to your campaigns view in adwords, competitive metrics > Search Impr. share to see what percentage of the total number of searches you're getting. If it's well below 100% you may need to bid above what Google's telling you.

In terms of not getting many clicks per day, it's all relative so it would be good to know how many you are getting. Your CTR may not be the problem, it may just be that you need to add in additional terms, use some broader targeting like broad match modifiers, or that you're targeting too small of a geographic radius. For that position in that industry you'd want at least a 3.5% ctr (but it will be much higher once optimized).

Conversion rate is kind of a function of everything combined. Often the largest gains can be made on the landing page however. Typically something free always helps, perhaps a free garage door quote or catalog.

    Hope it helps.

    Peter
