What is the difference between PPC and SEM?

Hi Friends,

I am new for PPC so i like to know about the basics, so i have a question that is

what is the difference between PPC and SEM?

    Hi digipush,

    The answer is 2.

    No matter how you slice it the difference is 2.

    Let's do the math together, shall we?

    PPC has 3 consonants while SEM has 2 consonants and 1 vowel. That is a difference of one consonant, and one vowel.

    1+1 = 2 therefore the difference is 2.

    OR, if you prefer numerology:

    The sum for the position number for each letter within the alphabet for PPC equals 35 (16+16+3=35). While the sum of each letter position in the alphabet for SEM = 37 (19+5+13=37).

    37 - 35 = 2 therefore the difference is 2.

    There can be no dispute the difference is definitely 2.

    Perhaps a better question to ask is "What is the difference between a dictionary and a discussion forum?"

    Now that would be an interesting topic indeed.

    A dictionary is where you go to look up the definition of a term like PPC, or SEM. While a discussion forum is where you go to ask for advice on one of those topics. One is not like the other.

    Can you tell us the difference?

  • For me, SEM (Search Engine Marketing) is an umbrella term for all activities where you advertise using search engines. There is two separate activities in SEM: SEO and PPC. You should use one of those terms to make clear what you are talking about and avoid confusion.

    SEM is also known as Search Engine Marketing. It is done to increase the visibility of a website on the search engines. It includes a variety of marketing techniques under its umbrella, such as Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Reputation Management.


    PPC means Pay Per Click ; Some ads, particularly those served to mobile search users, may be charged by the number of clicks that resulted in a direct call from a smartphone.

    SEM SEM - Search Engine Marketing, as the name specifies that we can advertise our product/service through search engines (like Google, Yahoo etc...).

    SEM has two main categories.
    1. Organic (SEO)
    2. Paid (PPC)

    Organic: In this approach you try to drive the traffic to your website. This method is generally called as SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Here the traffic generation is gradual.

    Paid: In this approach you try to drive the traffic by spending the money. PPC is one of the method to get an instant traffic. Where you will pay money to the advertising service provider only when someone clicks on your Ad. Some of the advertising service providers are Google AdWords from Google, Bing Advertising by Microsoft, Yahoo! Advertising by Yahoo!.

    SEM stands for search engine marketing, it is a one type of submitting and posting of website within search engines to succeed maximum visibility and boost your traffic from search engine.
    PPC stands for pay this is the best way to get more visitors to your site. Because company needs to pay only for the click.

    So many differences in PPC and SEM.

    But it's simple language of one difference is
    In PPC, you have to before pay money for a service and its give you results fast (depending using smart person) Sometime ppc gives you negative impact.

    In SEM, you have to pay after service... Its long term services but its impacts are powerful results...
