How Do I Get Ad Extensions Showing In Google Search?

Just started AdWords. My ad shows 2nd on mobile and at bottom on PC. I have a call, callout, and structure snippets extensions.

Problem: Only the basic 1 line ad shows up.

I think that I read somewhere that G will not show extensions unless you paid "enough", but I am not sure.

Do I need to bid more or have I not activated or set up the extensions correctly? If I have not set up or activated them correctly, how do you do that? I followed G's instruction as best as I could.

Thanks!

That is pretty much it. In order for the extensions to show you'll need to improve your ad rank, either through raising your quality score or your bid.

The nice thing is that it's pretty easy to test out how high you'll need to bid. Temporarily raise your bid in Adwords, wait a minute or so, and then just google your search term and see what shows up. It's not exactly foolproof but it'll give an indication of where you need to bid for your extensions to show.

  • Ad extensions need a certain QS to show. If you have a poor QS, no matter how high you bid, they'll show rarely if at all. A QS of 7 or more will show extensions consistently.

Even with a great QS, extensions don't show all the time. It's at Google's discretion. You may also have created every extension but doesn't mean they'll show all at once.

    Hi AlphaWarrior,

    As usual, Lucid nailed it.

You have got to have a QS 7 or better to get ad extensions to show.

Also, ad extensions only show in top ad positions, so you have to have an Ad Rank score that puts your ad into a top ad slot.

Finally, your ad extensions must first be expected to increase your CTR by a special algorithm in AdWords that predicts the overall effect of CTR when displaying the ad extension. This varies on a query by query basis, so it is not likely to ever be 100% consistent.
