Hey,

I have started using Voluum and have tried to integrate it with Google adwords but google does not allow me to enter the Voluum generated URL in the destination URL. Is this possible? Anyone else have the same problem?

Thanks!

      Mrrightme,

I am direct linking and not using a landing page. The URL shown in the ad and the destination URL have to have similar properties. For example, if the ad was to bookreviews.com the destination URL cannot have the Voluum tracking code URL. Whereas, Bing is not as strict.

        Hi affiliatenewbie1,

In the realm of affiliate marketing there is a tendency to use improper terminology which leads to a lot of confusion. In this case I think you may be thinking of the term "landing page" in the way that has been incorrectly used recently by many folks in the Affiliate Marketing world. For example, I often see people refer to an offer page as a "landing page" and incorrectly assume the the term "landing page" is strictly a specific type of page, it is not.

Technically speaking, the term "landing page" refers to any page a user lands on after clicking a link. Every ad with a hot link leads to a "landing page". So obviously you are using a "landing page" whether you realize it or not.

When using a 3rd party tracking URL, you can enter a destination URL from a different domain as long as the destination URL redirects the user to a "landing page" URL that is on the same domain as the display URL.

        To clarify terms:
        • Dispaly URL - URL that appears on your ad text
        • Destination URL - URL the ad points to, must be the same domain as the display URL, or redirect to a URL that is on the same domain as the display URL.
        • Landing Page URL - The page users land on after any and all redirects. Must be on the same domain as the display URL.

Thanks for all the constructive feedback.

Ok. So! Here are some follow-up questions. If I am promoting a product and using a PPC campaign on adwords. Can I link directly to the offer for the product OR do I have to have an intermediary landing page, hosted on a personal domain which then links to the product page?

I believe that adwords does not like my desination URL because I am using the wrong tokens for adwords which are generated through the Voluum interface. I have been using ###KEYWORD### at then end of the URL. It should be &s1={keyword}, based on information that I have found. I have yet to test.

          Thanks again.

Here's a great example on how to get your account google adwords account banned. Just follow affiliatenewbie1 steps.

When running with google, make sure to have your own Landing page that follows adwords guidelines. Keep testing different landing pages, AD copy and make sure your keywords are tightly grouped. This is only the fractions of things to keep in mind.

A lot of variables come into play, follow their terms and you will have a long lasting relationship with Adwords.
