What is your budget? What are you promoting? If you are running text ads it not just about keywords its also about ad copy, Title & Description and targeting.

        Hi itsprabhucbe,

Is it cheap cost per click rates you seek, or most value per dollar of ad spend?

You can purchase a lot of valueless clicks for "cheap" and get nothing of value in return. I suggest that you instead focus on getting the most value from your limited budget rather than simply getting the most low value clicks that can be purchased.

When managing campaigns we always look at the "value per click" and compare that to the "cost per click", and the "number of clicks" attainable to determine the value of a keyword.

        (VPC - CPC ) * Clicks = Profit

With AdWords you set the maximum amount you are willing to pay per click. Using the above formula, applied to your bid, will help you to achieve the greatest value per dollar of ad spend.

What dburk says, focus on the value. Cheap is nice but there really is no such thing. You are in a marketplace and keyword prices are based in large part on what typical rates advertisers are willing to pay. Supply and demand.

The longer keywords MAY be cheaper but don't count on it. You are a web designer. That keyword may cost $1. The reason is that other advertisers are willing to pay this because a job may net thousands of dollars. If you focus on longer keywords such as "where can i find a web designer in timbuktu", you won't get many impressions. You also are competing with "web designer" keywords which many are bidding $1 for, so your longer tail won't cost you less, unless you bid only a few cents. But bidding low, you will be showing in a very low position, even with the best Quality Score ever.

All this to say, use the keywords that are relevant to what you are selling and bid what the market establishes to get a decent position. Improve quality so you get lower CPC and improved position.

The budget specified by you is too low. I have run successful campaigns in the region specified by you in your niche, but the least budget we used was $30 Per Day. The landing page needs to be highly optimized for conversions. And then it will come down to how many leads you are able to convert into sale, and at what costing (since there are a lot of web design service providers, the competition is mostly on price - atleast for SMB's). Good luck.

Just one word of advice, Goggle adwords is not really cheap. And if they are cheap, it probably means that the number of people who are really searching for it is so low that you are not going to get a lot of it.

One avenue you can try is Facebook ads. Facebook ads are a lot more targeted and cheaper than Google Adwords.

      Hi Aaron,

I tend to agree with most of what you said. Cheap usually means low value. With AdWords being the biggest and most widely used platform, the full and accurate value is usually reflected in the CPC required for impressions.

Other networks, may have fewer competent competitors, however they also tend to have less targeted traffic. As a result, you seldom gain more than you lose by focusing on the third tier platforms.

I agree that Facebook can be a great place to advertise, especially for certain types of products. However, I do not agree with the assertion that it is a lot more targeted than AdWords. AdWords offers many of the same targeting methods in the Display Network that Facebook offers. And, when it comes to the Search Network, the targeting tends to be exponentially greater than anything available on the Facebook platform.

There are things that Facebook offers that are an advantage, it is mainly in the social nature of the platform. It is pre-built to allow for audience engagement with your brand. You can of course build engagement features onto your own websites, but you cannot match the audience size that Facebook offers for engagement opportunities.

Google AdWords does offer Engagement Ads which, when well executed, can have as much or more impact as the community engagement features of Facebook. However, it does take a more sophisticated advertiser, with ample resources, to execute engagement ad campaigns effectively. Facebook makes it much easier for the small guy with little resources, but again best results tend to be limited to certain types of products and services.

Google also has an excellent website YouTube for customer engagement, YouTube, and this is just another channel. I recommend that you not look at these options as an either or choice. It behooves you to test each of these major platforms and to use all that can generate a positive ROI.
