Cease and Desist EMAIL - I'm thinking this could be a fraud

I got an e-mail from a company giving me notice of infringement. They said I should " immediately cease and desist any and all use of the subject domain name.".

However, when I saw their contact e-mail, I copied the name of the company and the domain name was forwarded to another site. I'm thinking this isn't real - what do you guys think?

    Hi bigcat1967,

Is there a likeness to a registered Trademark in your domain name, and more importantly are you using that likeness in bad faith? If there is no registered trademark you are infringing by using your domain name to trick users into thinking there is an association with a competitor then you can "probably", safely ignore it. But check with a lawyer if you want to be certain.

It's hard to say without knowing what domain you got the notice for.

If the domain was one I was currently using and making money off of, I'd consult with a lawyer before doing anything. If it's a scam, it can be ignored, but if it isn't, failure to act on the request could result in expensive litigation.
