How many positive response are you getting...

Internet marketing is all about driving traffic to a web page and then getting a positive response of some kind. These would include...

- getting a subscriber to your list

- a click on a ppc ad such as Google Adsense

- a lead filled out for a CPA program

- selling a product

- selling a membership such as PIPS

- getting an email from someone

- getting an RSS subscriber to your blog feed

- getting a blog comment

- getting your site bookmarked

- getting a referral

- any thing else that makes you money or creates contact with your visitor

My favorite would be getting more subscribers to my mailing list as this leads to more of everything else. But increase the positive responses from as many visiors as possible and your income will go up.

Of course it all starts with traffic and more of it!

This is a great list and equally great advice.

I think some people get mixed up between "advertising" and "marketing." They think they can place an ad somewhere or put up a website and that's it. All their problems are solved. A zillion people will come knocking on their door.

Unfortunately for those who think that way, making money online is a business like any other business and it requires focused, consistent effort just like any other business.

With Internet Marketing, that means doing the things necessary to get a good blend of all of the results you noted on your list. And to keep on doing those things day after day.

To me, that is marketing.

I agree GT.

I read one time where Jeff Mulligan was sitting in a Internet marketing seminar and the speaker said everyone who comes to your website is going to leave. He said something clicked in his mind and it did with me as well.

What you must do is try to get as many of them as possible to do something that benefits your business. That really stuck with me and ever since then I've tried to give them options and not focus specifically on one particular product, program, or method of making money.

This has worked out well for me and is continuing to do so.

That is great inspiration!

Our job is not to just put up a website and get people there. We've got to really think about what we are going to do to get and keep their attention once they arrive. What WILL we do to inspire and motivate them to action?

As an affiliate marketer, I am definitely guilty of throwing ads and banners and standard articles on my website, thinking that some of it will stick when people arrive. Wrong thinking!

I have to be more creative, think like the target prospect and start making high-value improvements to my web pages.

(lol - sounds good on paper. Sometimes easier said than done! But that is the goal. I think that should be the aim of every aspiring marketer.)

I have nothing really to add but just wanted to thank you all for reminding me of how this business works.

We have to be creative and keep the attention of visitors to our sites and get them to sign up while they are there. We have to keep their interest by offering different opportunities and to make our sites attractive and informative..
