I just logged in to my online home business tip blog control panel and noticed that the version being used is wp2.8.4

That's okay I hear you say, so what's the problem?

Well, this particular blog is hosted by H4Profit and is not as easy to update as my others and I have never got round to updating it because of the complexities involved.

But it has been updated......but not by me!!!

I was going to get Houdy to do it for me when I had the budget....but not yet....what is going on?

I know I am getting older and I also know I forget things occasionally!

Please tell me I am not going mad ......not yet please

David has upgraded many WordPress sites to protect us from the threat that I reported earlier.

i emailed him at 11pm on a saturday night of a 3-day holiday weekend and he said he was still working on upgrades and had been all day...

Darn there goes my business, hard to compete with free! But I doubt he optimizes them for you too.

Just curious Graham, are the plugins updated too? Some outdated plugins may not run or will conflict with other plugins on the new version of WP...

I had an email exchange with David yesterday before upgrading a blog. There are security settings enabled by default on the H4P servers that he is reluctant to change. Those settings prohibit WP automatic upgrades, plugins upgrades and the ability to upload images into posts. I always ask him to enable these on all blogs I install or upgrade so you can take control of your own future upgrades.

I hope he makes backups but since he has total control of the servers he should have the ability to restore what might be lost if things go bad.

You should have a backup strategy and if reading this check your blog and make a backup of the wp-content folder and the database right away !

Jeff - the same reason he won't change the procedure is the same reason I won't put my FTP information in WordPress - SECURITY.

Note the part about there were only HACK ATTEMPTS - no accounts were hacked on Host4Profit that we know of - due to the security they already had in place.

I love WordPress don't get me wrong - but their security SUCKS. Every other day it seems there is another hack attack.

I am sorry that you lost business because he is trying to protect his customers.

I did follow your directions and backed up my 3 sites before they were upgraded.

I am quite sure that David has backups.

I am wondering about the PlugIns myself - I have yet to check them because I just can't stand anymore bad news right now or to deal with anything confusing -

In a few days I will deal with that - and you know I wish I could afford to have you fix it - I just can't right now.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Wish I had an older version unless Houdy can help. Some plugins won't upgrade with the new, says no Header Title or something simular.

Oh yea, I have recommended Houdy's WordPress installation and upgrade a few hundred times and believe a WordPress PIPs site is the only way to go. I love wordpress for it's workability and options.

Hi Houdy,

Don't worry about loss of business, I'll still need you to do a few bits for me as soon as my budget allows...I wouldn't trust anyone else to do it for me.
By the way, just a thought, why don't you set up an affiliate program to drum up some extr business for you?

my plugins seem to have updated okay without any glitch.

I have a backup plugin running on most of my blogs which emails me a backup copy every other day, but thanks for alerting me.
