Default For PIPS members who still have the dreaded JOB

It can be tough at times working your online business when you have to work excess hours at your JOB. Sometimes you just dont have the energy to get going after a long and tiring day at work.

So why not take advantage of work with your home business.

I just went out to CVS (thrift store nearby for those who dont know) and bought a 2.5in x 4in notebook where I keep in my pocket at all times. When i think of something like an article title, parts of an article, something i want to add to my site, or many other ways to improve my business, I write it down. By the time you go over it after work you can come up with some awesome and creative ideas.

You can also go pick up a hand held tape recorder and record anything that comes to mind. It might be quicker and easier.

Times are tough and your job is just that, your job. Where your business is your business, so its time to take your business to the next level and do whatever it takes to succeed.

There is my tidbit for the day.

Matt

Great idea Matt,

I have a 'to do' list here at home that I use everyday, and I must admit when I am out at work I am constantly thinking of what to do to improve my business, I can see I ought to be making another 'to do' list while I'm at the dreaded JOB,

Carol

Very good idea, Matt. Yeh you've got the bug alright!

You remind me of 4 years ago when I started in IM. I was looking for a j-o-b and going to interviews, and working temp contract jobs, but all I could think about was IM and getting back to my PC or planning what I was going to do next. I so didn't want another j-o-b.

What you are talking with the notebook, is also related to having a 'swipe file' - which I teach about in my copy writing class.

Along with what to do today/next,

- Jot down any possible new keywords that come to mind and research them later

- Record compelling advertising slogans you see or hear

- Record 'power words' or ones that you see, hear or think of that have good 'emotional triggers'

- If you think of a way to say something, write it down so you can refer to it when you are writing ad copy

Here's to you being able to quit the boring day job someday and just work from home! Cheers!

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the great tip. I use a 5 subject folder to keep organized and it really helps. It's not so useful for ideas on the go though.

I've been meaning to get a voice recorder because my phone only allows me 1 minute worth of recorded memos...lame. There are plenty of times when something pops into my head and that if I don't get it down on paper or recorded, its lost and gone forever.

I've probably lost at least a few million dollar ideas here and there because of it. I think a 1 dollar notepad or recorder would be well worth the investment.

Cheers,
Matt

Good tip Matt. I always add to my swipe file and never run out of things to write on because of it. It really is as easy as looking around and being aware of what you see! Thanks for posting this good advice for eveyone.

Good ideas. I am currently employed still and i have to travel 3 hours to and from office. I always bring with me some reading materials so that at the end of the day will i end up with 1 or 2 articles . Other times i bring with me my portable DVD so i can watch tutorial videos or my MP3 for any audio materials. Time management and keeping things organized is really a must.

Cheers,

Jennifer

Great idea Matt. I usually write my list of things to do the night before but I just might use your tip as many thoughts are lost in the stress of the day.

Thanks

Hey, Matt:

Great suggestion! A few years ago, when I was working outside of my home at a "normal" job, I did that sort of thing. I was always making notes home of ideas or things that inspired me for my home business.

Also, whenerver I came upon an interesting, or inspirational, or home business-related website, I would email it to my home email as a reminder for later. (Only do it if your employer allows you to use your job email like that!)

I think many of us who are focused on building an Internet business often do seem to have part of our mind running in the background, thinking and planning our home business strategies, watching for ideas to add to the mix.

For decades, I have always carried a notepad in my pocket and several pens (because someone is always borrowing a pen and not returning it.)

I feel naked without a notepad in my pocket! (Nerd.) Who said that?
