Hi Thomas, Congrats. I see it's number three on the first page. That's awesome. I notice Cynthia Minnaar, a fellow PIPS member and PPG and NPG mentor, is sitting in the number one spot for that keyword phrase. She will be tough to beat! ![]() All the best, Alan |

| The longer and more specific a keyword phrase is, the better. However, after looking up the search traffic for this keyword phrase, it doesn't receive hardly any traffic. So, essentially, ranking on the first page doesn't mean anything if it doesn't bring in traffic. My suggestion would be to narrow it down and target just a little broader phrase. Do some keyword research and find a term that's going to bring in more traffic. |

It also doesn't have many competitors only 624. If the phrase had a lot of searches that would be great but often there aren't any competitors because the phrase will not bring you much traffic. Cynthia would be easy to beat, she isn't targeting that exact phrase. ![]() Quote:

Hi Tom, I don't see your site anywhere on the first page for the keyword, Home Business. For the other keyword phrase that you originally posted, yes, your site is at the number three position. |

the keyword Home Business has to be with caps for first letter of each word or you get different results Tom McMullen |

It's quite common for a website to reach the first page and one of the top 3 positions for a short period after you have submitted an article or made SEO changes to your website. For newer sites they will only stay in that position a short time then they fall back and sometimes they can fall a long way back. The term "Home Business" has thousands of competitors and would be very hard to rank for except for an occasional first page listing right after a change or submission. But making the first page at any time is a very good sign. That means that it is possible to do with work and consistency. If you have seen it there once just keep repeating what you did to get it there the first time and eventually it will stick. Also, when you see the first few listings are sites like "About.com, ezinearticles.com or online magazines etc. your chances of gaining a first page listing increase. Basically because those sites have gained that position more on the sites authority in the market than on keyword placement or onsite SEO for that keyword. |

My problem is if I put Home Business in a Google search without quotation marks my site will come up in fist place does anybody know why? Also my traffic took a large jump when my site showed up in first place. Tom McMullen |

Have you cleared you Cache or refreshed your browser? Sometimes you will get a saved copy instead of a new copy. They will look the same. If your traffic jumped then you made first place. Just keep doing what your doing and if it isn't there permanently now it will be. |

Nope, I am not seeing your site anywhere on Google for Home Business and I am in the USA. I searched through the first five pages and didn't see it. Also, I just checked it on rank checker and it says it's #117 actually. |

I found the problem but I do not know why my traffic increased so much, still checking Search customization details: Home Business spacer When possible, Google will customize your search results based on location and/or recent search activity. Additionally, when you're signed in to your Google Account, you may see even more relevant, useful results based on your web history. The following information was used to improve your search results for Home Business: Web History One or more items in your Web History were used to improve search results. Manage Web History Remove Web History from my Google Account If you're curious, you can see what a search for Home Business looks like without these improvements. I deleted the history and the problem is gone Thanks to all of you for your help Tom McMullen |

Yes, if you are logged into your Google account you will see different results. Always log-out before checking your rankings. I've made that mistake before and got excited for no reason.
