Post The Gurus Drive Me Nuts

Normally I don't pay any attention to email I get from the so called Guru's because they are just selling more junk and they are just using the normal hype to get me to respond. Stuff like, "My Good Friend, My Buddy, Exclusive For My List, Limited Time, Who Else Wants, How I made a Bazillion dollars in 2 months etc.. are all ways the emails start out. First off they never heard of the seller until they made a good JV offer and of course it's for their list, that's who their mailing it to. They can't mail it to my list right.

Well, for the most part I would advise newbies to get the trash out of their inboxes and concentrate on learning to build their, list, links, and authority.

But and with that said I am getting a kick out of the new bunch of emails I am getting, you probably are also. I still won't click the link and buy the junk but they are still funny.

Here is a typical new email format,

Quote:
Warning #1: The results in this new video are NOT typical,
but they are still cool.

Warning #2: You have to opt in to watch it (the horror!).

Warning #3: If you buy something as a result of watching this,
I'll get paid money and I will almost certainly squander it on
shiny things (or candy, or something equally stupid).

With that said, this is an awesome video about a NEW and
exciting way to make some serious dinero.

Here is my cleverly disguised affiliate link:

It's just too funny seeing the changes and how they are made fun of

Stephen

Now I remember why I don't read my emails...

Too funny.

What gets me on the other side, are the newbies that register names like 'MyMillionaireSite.com' or 'QuickEZCashToday.com' - yeh right.

ah marketing!

Yes it is out of hand with all the emails. But with all due forums like Warrior and Digital Point can be blamed for a lot of newbies trying to market as gurus. They read things and responses from people claiming they know all, and immediately think they do. Same with some of the bad bad ebooks out there.

I'm thinking Matt doesn't like the warrior forum, LOL

But Matt, you left out Magnetic Sponsoring and it's Be The Guru mindset training.

Then of course, if you don't go where there are people who actually do know a few things you will never be able to learn from them. What could be better than free advice from people who are living it daily and who share it on a regular basis in this forum.

As far as many of the people "who think they know all" most charge money to teach what they know. Then for some strange reason they claim to be doing a great service. Odd isn't it.

As far as those "bad bad" ebooks, there are also a lot of "good good " ebooks. As a matter of fact many people learn how to run their successful home businesses from ebooks and reports they have purchased. They simply take the great information they have received and apply it to their business. Many have made a lot of money this way. Knowing the person you are buying information from or who is recommending it to you is a great step in the right direction.

Now back to funny emails. I just received one for a video presentation from a friend. I decided to watch the video and the guy selling his program stated repeatedly that it is not a "Get Rich Quick" scheme. He repeatedly stated it will take time to start earning 45K or more per month, even as long as 3-4 months. These guys crack me up.

I tend to agree with you Stephen & Mat, the problem is however, every now and again you come across a little gem..a very useful tool or something which you would never have known about otherwise...so although they are for the most part laughable or maybe even an insult to inteligence I tend to check them for the free bonuses.

Have you noticed, you never get emails from Stone? He must have one of the biggest lists going, but he chooses not to market to his list, but through the backend of PIPS - this is a true Guru at work

Emails like that are a response to the new FTC guidelines. I've gotten quite a few of those.

Yes, they make me chuckle, but I won't buy from them either.

I'd have to agree with Graham as there are a few gems in the dirt. There are only a couple gurus that provide awesome, free content and tools. I look forward to their emails.

If anything this is a reminder for me to clean out my inbox and unsubscribe to many newsletters because I agree, most of it is worthless, and I don't read it anyway.

A good warning for newbies to not get stuck in the hype and empty promises.

Amen! I honestly believe that if these "gurus" were out to help others they wouldn't charge hundreds or thousands of dollars to let you in on their "little secrets."

It makes me sick when I see this stuff floating around on the internet. Some "newbies" are oblivious to what's really going on - and they spend themselves into a hole, putting their finances and family life on the line for some pie in the sky promise.

There's a fine line in Internet Marketing where I think it's ok to charge a fair price for something useful, but to regurgitate information, then exploit the most desperate of people, crosses the line.

There was an old Monty Python sketch that went something like this:

A man knocks on a door and a woman opens the door just a crack and asks what the man wants.

The man says," Hello, I'm a burgler and I'd like to come in and take some things from you."

Lady says, "You arent an encyclopedia salesman are you?"

Man says, "No, No! I'm a burgler. I burgle things. You know..come in and look around... take expensive things... that sort of thing."

Lady says, "No, I think you are an enclopedia salesman. I cant stand encyclopedia salsemen...always trying to sell you those books that fill up your shelves for no reason."

Man says, "Not at all, Maam. I assure you that I'm a burgler, and I'm only interested in stealing what you have."

Lady says, "Oh allright, come on in then." She opens the door and lets the man in.

Man looks around and leans closer to the lady. He says, "You know, a nice set of encyclopedias would really add to this place. Lots of opportunity to learn new things. They would look good on that shelf there. I have the perfect set for a great price, just for you."

Sound familiar?

I agree, but 'Don't Throw Out the Baby With the Bathwater'

Just because someone is successful does not necessarily mean they want to sell you snake oil.

They may actually have valuable information to share with you.

Same goes for buying 'regurgitated' information - May just be that not everybody on the planet has already heard about it, so it may still have some value.

There is nothing unethical or illegal about trying to make money and that is what we are all trying to do.

Don't make the mistake of letting jealousy or envy paint every expert with the same brush.

Wouldn't it be nice if someday you can share the secret of your success with others and help them get started?

Again, I agree, just say no to snake oil - anything that sounds 'too good to be true'. (but there is a thin line in trying to use marketing that uses 'emotional triggers' effectively and just plain hype {flat out lies}).

Do your due diligence before you take action, but until then keep an open mind.
