"Black Friday" is Online Too!

Whoopee!

I got a hecka deal from Dell - a 23" widescreen monitor for only $169 - with tax door to door $199 (free shipping)

Here are some specials and where I found my monitor which someone said they paid $700 for just 2 years ago -

I would never recommend anyone go shopping in a store today as they and parking/traffic are a MADHOUSE - This is THE shopping day of the year - not to mention traffic/people coming back from dinner, etc.

Hi, Patricia:

Congrats on the great deal from Dell! It pays to keep your eyes open, shop around ... and know which day to take action!

Here in Canada it's "just another day" for us – our Thanksgiving was last month. However, here in my little town, today is the annual kick-off to our Christmas shopping season with a parade, fireworks and shopping until midnight at many stores.

By the way, if you're watching the parade, don't blink or you'll miss it! (I DID emphasize the "little" in "my little town," didn't I?)

LOL. Well good for your town, GT!

I had a conversation in the OT forum about why they call it "Black Friday" as I thought it a strange name for a shopping marathon.

One guy said because the cops hate it because of all the traffic and parking issues with shoppers.

Another (this one makes more sense) is that it is the main shopping day for retail establishments to be 'in the black' - since they are all in the red?

I do know here in the US that they say if they don't make it today they don't make it. I can hardly believe that though with Christmas just ahead. Of course things are so very bad with consumer confidence right now that many businesses are going belly up.

I am the best advertisement in the world for shopping online - I do everything online - I actually feel like I live inside my computer - a computer hobbit.

I hate to shop and I can't stand the traffic, parking, long lines, missing or haughty sales personnel, etc. Especially if you have to mail it then add long line in the post office (usually all the way outside the front door).

Whereas, sit back and relax at your PC - order online and have them ship your gifts direct to the giftee.

Happy Holly DAZE!

Hi, Patricia:

Like you, I've heard that "Black Friday" relates to getting enough sales volume to put a business into the black. However, hearing about so many sales with such great prices, I don't know how retailers can make any profit. Must be the old trick of "get them into the store for the hot items and they'll buy other stuff, too." (Doesn't work on me; I just buy the loss leaders!)

Also like you, I am warming up to shopping online more and more, and enjoying the instore experience less and less. There are some things you do need to touch and feel in the store, but there are many things that can be bought comfortably online.
