Hi warriors. I want to copy a book and make a blog out of its chapters. I don't want to scan the pages because I want it to be searchable. Can anyone recommend any OCR software. I only know what I have read on wiki but I was hoping to find something affordable. Any help or direction would be appreciated. Thanks, Ruth |

Hi Ruth, Most scanners these days come with OCR software. 3-in-1 printers also do, for the most part. Do some searching, but you should be able to find one at an affordable price. My $70 printer can scan to text. Just be careful as some characters might not get translated correctly, so you'll have to read through it and make any changes as needed. |

Hi Alan, my printer can also scan to text but it's too problematic to scan old books. The spine will break. I was hoping there was some kind of hand held device that I could 'scan' across the page. I really don't want to type out all the pages. regards, r |

Ahh... Yeah I know what you mean. I'm not familiar with hand-held devices. Perhaps try a Google search and see what you can find.

Wow, these used to be pretty common, but they seem to be non-existent today. You might be able to find one on ebay try searching for "handheld scanner" -barcode The only thing new I can find that is close is http://www.jr.com/planon-systems/pe/PNO_R705/ but it is about $170 |

Yes! The very thing.......way too expensive though. I was hoping for much less. Thanks so much James. I will keep the reference until I build up some cash, it's exactly what I was looking for.
