Which Page's Ranking Is Relevant?
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

In commenting on blogs/sites, is it the page rank of the index page or the actual page you are commenting on, that is relevant.

This arose from an article I read which indicated that posting comments based on high PR of index page may not be as important as basing it on the PR of the actual page you are commenting on, if your objective is targetting high PR blogs/sites.

Hi Dele,

As the name suggests, page rank is applicable only to the page, not the whole site.

Don't be put off leaving a comment on a page without a page rank though, because if someone creates a new page on a site, even if their index page has a good page rank, it could take a few months for the new page to get a page rank.

Cheers,
Suzanne

Hi Suzanne,

Thanks for your comment.

Please be more specific in your answer. If I get you right, it is PR of the actual page on which I comment that really matters? This is what google takes into consideration?

Wow! High PR index pages are just a bait?

I think it is sentiments not to be put off commenting on a new page with no PR as time is a very scarce resource.

Waiting for your or someone else's conclusion on this to get the picture perfectly right.

Thank you.

Hi Dele,

In terms of page rank, it is only the PR of the actual page that counts.

But my point is that Google Toolbar PR is always out of date as it is only updated once very few months. Just because a page has no PR in the Google toolbar it doesn't mean that it has no PR in reality, as Google internally updates the PR continually.

The home page PR does impact the PR of new pages as each page will pass some PR to all the pages that it links to. So if the home page has a high PR and the site has a good internal linking structure then this PR is passed internally to all the pages that the home page links to..

Cheers,
Suzanne

I have found that BOTH are correct. Yeah, I know, this sounds like double talk, but it's true.

Say for instance I"m linking to a high PR site and it's index page is PR5. As long as the site has "dofollow" I have noticed I get the benefit of the PR5 ranking. The same for forum linking.

However, if I link to a personal blog with a high PR, again PR5, and the page I am linking to has a pr0, I generally do not get credit for the 5, but rather for the 0 of the page I'm linked to.

I find it is worth taking the time to locate high PR sites with the "do follow" or at least NOT having "no follow" in their source code of the index page and over time Google will give you credit for the back link.

It obviously takes time, but, getting credit from Google and Yahoo for a high PR back link is well worth it.

I use Google PageRank Checker - Check Google page rank of any web pages to check the PR of any site I'm interested in leaving my ONE WAY back links on.

And i use Webmasters tool (SEO) : Domain Backlinks Checker to analyze each of my backlinks.

I am using a strategy to only have one way links, and lately I have been putting ONE WAY links on PR6-PR10 sites. It is very time consuming, but, I hope that over the next 6 months or so, I will see major results in the search engine and in my PR ranking.

Dele,

There's one more thing I forgot to mention.

As you well know, relevant backlinks are what makes Google stand up and take attention.

What you may not know is that Google and all the search engines give more credence to .edu, .org, .gov and .mil websites. These are the areas that I am testing right now to gain high PR one way links that are relevant to my websites (all of them).

Once you put up a link for your PIPS site, you can then post another comment or such on a different post or article for another site.

The nice thing is that there are many of those domains that allow you to post your name, your website and even a specific website page in their profile area and are "do follow".

You may have to sign up to a lot of forums etc, however, once you do, locate a post that is relevant to your website or web page and within a few days you will have a high PR back link.

I put a link on a .org PR5 Forum about 5 days ago, and it already is linked to my home page. This week, my whole linking strategy will be to find and place links on at least 30-50 PR5 and above domains. I can do this once a week for about 2 hours.

My goal is to have over 300 PR5 and above one way links by September 2009. I just posted my links to 2 PR9 and 1 PR10 forum last night. I'm monitoring now to see when they will actually appear in my backlinks.

Good luck in your linking strategy and best of luck with your PIPS business.

Allen
