Adsense: Is it worth it?

Hi everyone,

I've noticed other PIPS members advertise google adsense. Is it worth it?
I only recently started the process of generating backlinks - article writing, blogging, social media etc and the traffic to my site and alexa ranking are poor. I understand this will improve in time if I am consistent with building backlinks.
But what I'm wanting to know - is adsense a wortwhile endeavour? Or is more a distraction to your visitors from what you're trying to do, which is promote your own products?

Hi Ray,
Maybe I shouldn't reply as I don't yet have an Adsense Empire - but I can tell you that I was talking to 2 Marketers yesterday and one of them IS making a living out of mainly adsense orientated sites.
However, the careful selection of Paying Niches-Keywords-Domain Names and the addition of 100% original content on sites designed to take advantage of Google Adsense is vital to making it really effective.
If you are all about selling your own or Affiliate products, then you may just dilute that effort if you allow your site visitors to slip away to other ads rather than buying from your main links.

So, Adsense isn't dead by any means but it does have to be used carefully and efficiently to make it pay enough to replace your day job.
It seems that most big time adsense earners achieve their success by having lots of sites (you'll have heard of Virtual Real Estate) and don't count on large income from just a few sites at all!

Now maybe someone else will add to this discussion and perhaps will give you more personal detail?????

What's better with Adsense is that there's no selling involve, mostly.

Once you've got a running and working Adsense empire, it is almost set and forget.

I pretty much agree with all the observations here.

Adsense on your website is a distraction for your visitors and to earn your big 25-cents from Google, you may be losing an opportunity to get a customer that could represent far more residual income.

It's weird that Adsense does not allow you to add 'target=blank' statement to leave your site open when the visitor clicks your Adsense ad and is redirected to your competitor as you would be able to do with most any other link.

Pretty much most of the people I know of who make a good income from Adsense have sites that are focused/targeted to specific niches (e.g., "mini-sites" or 'niche sites".

Adsense may be good for SEO, however, I see Google more and more as a fascist monopoly and like them less every day. They exclude sites from having Adsense because their robots don't feel they have 'any value' - and pass all kinds of judgments. It looks like they really take that 'gods of the internet' thing a little too seriously.

Adwords has recently banned 10's of thousands of affiliate marketers for no apparent reason other than they have some sort of vendetta against affiliate programs.

It depends on what you want from your site. If you want to sell products, build downlines, or promote specific programs then Adsense is a bad idea. It will quickly steal your potential customers away.

If you build Niche sites you want to set and forget then it is a good idea. Providing you don't swamp the site with all types of adsense designs.

I think Pat over estimated the .25 cents a click, it's actually much less.

Yep, that's pretty much how it is.

That depends on the site and the niche. I consistently get more than double that per click on several of my sites.

I use adsense on many of my sites, however, I have found that using the clickbank ads in an Adsense format has increased my monthly income dramatically.

Clickbank allows you to build the same formatted ads and place them on your website whereever you want them to appear.

I am seriously considering removing Adsense and replacing them with Clickbank ads.

I'd much rather get paid 75% of a 27 dollar product and still keep the customer on my site, then make a few cents to a dollar a click and have them leave my site.

Just my opinion on this.

If you are promoting something else on the site I would stay away from adsense. It is distracting and not as profitable.

There are two situations where I would use adsense:

1) You build a site around it. In a niche that you can provide good quality content on, and you know that niche has high payouts per click on adsense (use Adwords PPC rates as a guide).

2) You have sites that aren't performing or you have neglected, but still have traffic. Stick some Adsense on it and try to salvage something from it.

I changed a couple sites last week and noticed a big jump in Clickbank Hops and order form impressions but not much more money, yet. I also like the idea of bigger commissions and not loosing the buyer.

Adsense can servce as distraction quite alright but the truth is most people who visit your site won't buy from you. The best way to handle this is to add google adsense.

I disagree with most of the above. I love adsense and make my most amount of money online with adsense.

You should try to get something from each visitor that lands on your website, if that's just a 25 cent click then that is alright with me.

Visitors that jump around chasing links aren't the type to succeed in MLM anyway. Earn what you can from these types of visitors, the ones who want to succeed will find the information on your site.

Hi Jason, I'm curious as to what this statement means?

Seems to me most visitors are first time visitors and many are looking for an online opportunity. Meaning, they are newbies and don't have a clue as to what business model they want to start. This is providing the site visitors are targeted to your opportunity.

Personally. I jumped around a lot looking at one opportunity after another trying to make a decision. I would venture to guess almost all those in this forum did the same thing. Because many of us have had success online it wouldn't seem that jumping around played any role in it. My guess, educated opinion, summary, etc. is that the lack of good advice and proper training is the cause of most failures. Of course a lot of that is because people want the quick easy path so they don't want to learn. After all, learning takes time and most want it all right now.

Interesting , I have never have had any Income from Adsense over a few dollars at most.. Just was easy to add to blogs. Seems it's a distraction from our content. I like Clickbank , they pay 50% that will be on my list to check out. Did not know they have Ads.

The amount per click you can earn depends on many factors. I've earned anywhere from $0.01 to over $2 per click. I earn roughly $25 to $30 on average per month from Adsense. Keep in mind that's on a non-niche specific site.

I think Adsense is more worth pursuing if you plan to build specific niche sites that focus entirely on Adsense alone.

It comes down to what your plans are for the site, and what percentage of traffic you're willing to give up to those clicks. Let's face it, not everyone is going to be interested in what you have to offer. Might as well make a little from these people, than nothing at all.

Replacing the ads with Clickbank ads might be a good alternative. It's something I've been wanting to test, and probably will shortly. I'll let you know how I make out. The thing I see with this is that you need to find a good quality product that's going to convert well. If that Clickbank ad gets 100 clicks and no orders, then it's a waste. I can make probably around $60 or more from that in Adsense. Testing and tweaking will be the key here.

I use a combination of Clickbank and Adsense on many of my properties, I don't make a bunch of money because frankly, when I first created a bunch of my sites I knew nothing about keyword research and SEO. But after some training and trial and error any new properties I create will do better.

Yes, I like Adsense on my site. Once it's setup, you can leave it and do nothing else, and you will generate clicks and money from it over time. It's nice to get a paycheck from Google in the mail every once in a while! Why not, it's free and effortless!

Yes Adsense is worth it. My very good buddy makes about $200-$300 per day with adsense (3 sites). I swear he only works like 4 to 8 hours a month!

The informed opinion seems to be try it on a site by site basis, see whether or not you'll be better off on a visitor by visitor basis sending people to clickbank or having them click on your adsense. It's more profitable than it used to be

It really depends on what you are targeting. If you are targeting some sort of product then you'd be better off with Affiliate products. If it's some sort of service then I'd stick to adsense. I've found that I make way more money with affiliate links then adsense. Adsense stands as my backup plan. Prosperent is a great alternative to adsense. Check out my link below for more information.
