Can anyone explain what this is and what if anything I should do about it? This is an email I received: Dear owner of http://www.warriorforum.com, I'm the webmaster of (link removed by moderator) We came across your site on the Internet and feel that it would fit perfectly into our collection of quality links at (link removed by moderator) The Google PR of this site is currently 0. We've already placed a link to your website along with a description at our site on the page, xxxxxxx (link removed by moderator) which we encourage you to check for accuracy. We'd appreciate it if you place a link back to our site using the following HTML code (just copy and paste it into your links page): Also can anyone explain the difference between backlinks and one way links? Sorry if this sounds naive, I am a newbie trying to catch up. All help greatly appreciated. Regards Steve |

First clue you have been spammed and your email address hacked - Clue: Are you the owner of the warrior forum? (of course not) What you should do #A (remove your email address from your Warrior Forum profile and/or click the box to not to receive emails from the Warrior forum other than Admin): Clue #2 - they are trying to sell you something. Clue #3 - what to do -#B unsubscribe if there is a link, throw it in your spam folder, and I would also report it to the Warrior Forum Helpdesk so that whoever sent it can be banned. Backlinks and one way links are often the same thing. this is versus reciprocal links which are different. backlinks are you linking back to your site from other sites where you post your links and content - (i guess this is where they get 'one way'). reciprocal links are you linking to other sites that are your competitors and peers and them reciprocating by linking back to you. I am sure there are others who can articulate this better than I can and may even have a different definition from what I believe to be true. If so, bring it. p.s. I removed the links from your post as I am not going to give spammers any free air time. |

This is the works of SEO Powersuite's Link-Assistant. I used to use the software but don't anymore due to spam complaints from other webmasters, which I took seriously and removed the software and got my money back after the second complaint and that's all there was to it. This is the exact same message that Link-Assistant sends by default to webmasters of returned search result... Basically, you enter a keyword term and the assistant finds websites in any search engine you want with results like "link", "partner", "link exchange", "contact" and so forth. The software allows users to get a list of potential link partners, everything done on auto-pilot, all you have to do is add a script to your site and the reciprocal links get taken care of while you do nothing at all. It also allows you to do 3 way link exchanges, quite frankly, it's now a waste of time since Google doesn't place as much importance on reciprocal links and now works on a "voting" basis. This means that the more your link appears on other websites, the more "votes" you get, irregardless if there is a reciprocal link or not, Google became aware of link-assistant. Yes, they are still the #1 ranked site for SEO software but they bring Google a lot of money from PPC, hence why they won't get shut down... money talks... Hope this cleared a few q's for you. I still give the software a good rating on my site, the software is good, but takes a lot of time to tweak and from what I gather from your post, the user just installed it and left the room. |
