Hi Pipsters,
I have been commenting on blogs. I have not been comment spamming. I have only been making comments when I have something to say. However, one blog post I commented on today raised some questions in my mind so I included a couple of questions about the post in my comment. Is that OK? Is it good or bad etiquette to ask questions on blogs?

A really important part of blogging is to stimulate conversation.
So, when I get a comment on my personal development site, whether it has questions or not - I comment back to the commenter!
I especially like to get actual questions because it gives good feedback on what people want to know!

Why not? Just use the comment as a communication tool with the blogger.

You can even help answer some question on the blog and make some friends...!

Try to post added value information, will help other readers to click through to your site!

Hi Dave,

It's totally fine to raise questions in a blog. Unless you're a government
body and your post is the law, it's totally alright to raise legitimate
questions.

No one (at least not that I know of) will skewer you if you post good
and thoughtful posts and replies.

In fact, posting comments on each other's blog is a very common
strategy amongst bloggers.

Like the rest have said it is OK to ask questions. It is also OK to disagree with a blog post. As long as it is done respectfully and you show you have read the post there isn't a problem. Most of the comments I get that are in disagreement or questioning what I wrote is done by someone who links back to their personal site or blog as if they have the correct answers. Those type of comments are spammy and I delete them. Otherwise starting a conversation by giving your thought out opinion can be a good thing.

Definitely ask questions that are relevant to the post. I have a page on my blog that is specifically for asking me questions about WordPress that has over 200 comments on it.

On another note below is a recent comment I got that may not look like comment spam but given the post it is on and the "generality" of the comment, it is spam. The post it was on was a rant I made about getting ripped-off, and had nothing of real value in it, so as you can see this is just an automated comment or someone who didn't even read the post:

"Nice Post. I am new here but will be visiting more often as you have done a good job.

I consider your effort for this article is indeed valuable. Its well researched, well portrayed and well formated informative content.

I really appreciate the work. Keep it up....."

Raising queries to the blogger is always a welcome note. This clearly implies that you have read the article completely and asking questions. Hope all the bloggers admit this answer...

I personally love to receive a question in my blog posts because it shows real interest and sparks a communciation. I believe the purpose of blog comments to get that conversation rolling, and the more comments, the better! When asked a question, you can reply with more information, adding value to your blog. I don't think it's spamming at all, only I would be sure to allow others to comment as well and that the conversation is not just between you and the blogger!
