I like to share with everyone that my homepage PeterLeehc Dot Com has climbed its way to Top 10 Position for Keyword “Work From Home Ideas”. It was stuck at page 2 since July. If I were to single out 2 reasons how I did it, it would be (1) I re-seo my homepage in July (thanks Doug, I owe it to you) and (2) my recent aggressive blog commenting which started from my experiment which saw me obtain 1200 backlinks in 5 days.During the last 5 weeks my backlinks grew by 3000. Today it finally climbed up to first page (#4) of search term “Work From Home Ideas”. This term has an approximate monthly search of 10,000 per month. This is the good part. The not so good part is that I'm not seeing much more traffic - just trickles, shown in my Google Analytics. Anyone who got a theory on this, I would love to hear it. Perhaps it's really nothing to be proud of. I still think I need to get more keywords ranked on the first page. In fact the more keywords the better for traffic building. So it's a long process if you ask me and a no big deal result at this moment. But I guess I'll just enjoy and savor the moment for now. The harder part is keeping it on the first page. I'm very sure many of you have already made it to page 1, perhaps #1 too. I hope that you will share your thoughts on what you did to keep your SERP. I'm sure many of us would like to hear it too. Hi Peter, Congratulation for your good news, I think the 3rd reason is that google made some changes (again). You will see the improvement in the traffic soon, just be patience, and keep building your backlinks and concentrate on more keywords, just one is not enough. Tanny |

Hey great job Peter! Here's my theory on why you may not be seeing much of a boost in traffic... That term gets searched 10,000 times per month as you say. That comes out to about 333 per day. The first one or two sites are going to get the bulk of the traffic. I've read before that the #1 site typically gets about 60% of the traffic for any search term. That means they would get about 200 of the 333 searchers per day. Plus then you have the #2 and #3 sites taking even more of it. After that there's not much left to divide between the rest of the top 10. Looking at it that way it's easy to see why you aren't getting much more traffic. But it's still a great thing to be ranked that highly. Do that for more and more keyword phrases and it will add up quickly! Or work a little harder to get to #1 and you will get a lot more of the traffic for that phrase. |

Hi Trent, That sounds like a good theory, why didn't I think of that. At least I know what I should focus on to get this traffic. I'm closer to getting a little more traffic than I originally thought so. Peter Lee |

Buildingfutures, No nothing like that. Like I said, not much more traffic but as Kent rationalized, some more work needs to be done to get to #1 (from #4 now). Well don't you know SEO is a long process. But it's a positive sign that my link building is working well. Peter Lee |

Google are always making changes to their algorithm and the way they index and rank websites, one day your up and the next your down. My website was gone completely from Google for about a month, and now it back, a little lower then before, but I'm working on it, and I can see it's getting better from the quality of traffic I'm getting. Hi Peter, Wow, I must say that I'm very, VERY impressed with what I've seen on your blog. I spent about 10-20 minutes browsing your blog and it's chock filled with great content. Good stuff! The last time I was on your blog (that was when you had the contest)... the theme was kinda crummy (well, truth be told) and things were very messy. Now, it's very nicely cleaned up and the place looks nice and spiffy! Great job! Asher |

Asher, Thanks for your kind words. I know my blog now looks quite different. Well your blog is like your home. You need to spruce it a little, give it some spring cleaning sometimes and decorate it with the finest decorations. See others' homes in publications how they do it and borrow ideas or buy them. Always think of your visitors' reactions before doing so. When it looks clean and beautiful, then it is fit to then invite others to visit your "home". When they visit, you then show them around, entertain them, give a free cookie or two preferably made in US. Also if you made any new inventions in your household, show them with pride too. At the end of the visit if your visitors get impressed with your nice home, they'll probably come back again, perhaps this time bringing their own friends to see. Well I'll be glad to welcome them to my home too. There's plenty of cookies and new inventions all ready for them. Please visit my "home" again will you. Peter Lee |

Hi Peter, Congratulation on your getting so much backlinks. I've been working on article marketing/blog last few weeks but hardly to get more backlinks. I stopped by your blog and I really like it. It's very nice & neat. Don't know you design the blog or you use wordpress? Thanks Kha |

Hi Kha, You should continue doing article marketing like you are doing now. It's by far one of the best ways to increase backlinks and visitors to your site and blog. Don't worry the backlinks will show up later but check Yahoo instead of Google to see your backlinks. You probably won't see them in Google or fewer than at Yahoo. On my blog, thanks for the compliment but it didn't always look like this. I just gave it a new look recently when I changed its theme as the old theme was, lack of a better word "quite ugly". Asher could vouch for it and he has just given a very good description of it just a couple of comments above this thread. In the beginning I was focusing on just writing and content building so I was OK with it being called a little ugly, I guess. Hey I just visited your blog and left a comment. Good to know you are still visiting it and not because of the contest. Hope to see you again. Peter Lee |

Looks like the signs are starting to point in that direction. Anything I can do to help you acheive that, please never hesitate to ask. Great work my friend and I cannot wait to hear about your future milestones. Doug |

Well done Peter. You have a great site with a lot of good information. I am a regular visitor and I believe that over time, some of the traffic you will get will be loyal followers, and that is worth more than having to always get new traffic. Dave |

Doug, No, really while we recognize that having your site properly SEO'd is very important, the reality is that many of us like me really don't have the time to do it ourselves.(like me I've a full time job). I never knew it's that difficult getting to Google Top 10. Savor this moment I will. Well since you asked, do you think "Legitimate Home Internet Business" which is a third of my page title should now be changed. This KW phrase is also on page 1 but then there is no search volume for this KW phrase. Dave, Thanks for your kind words. Yes I really appreciate all your visits to my blog and I value all your participation and quality comments too. In fact you are currently one of my top 5 commentators, so hopefully you are getting some backlinks for yourself. My blogging community seems to be growing and it's people like you who have contributed to this and it does make this IM world a little less impersonal, than what I had found it to be at first. Hi "godisgood", Thanks for your kind words. Well like I said, SEO is a long term process and it does take time to see results. In fact compared to others I might even be called "real slow". But I guess this positive result for me reaffirms a few things I've learned, and practiced in my link building strategy. Glad that my small success could inspire you a little. I guess we all (including me) need to hear some of them just so that we are encouraged somewhat to continue working towards our own personal and business goals. Peter Lee |

Hi Peter, A dark top and a light bottom projects anger, probably in your case not anger directed towards any one, more like a determined anger, and very angry clouds too.Your knuckles are white as you grip your business steering wheel.Thats good, you'll probably get there .If you examine what is already successful, like our PIPS graphics, you will see a very angry and powerful royal maroon turned into understated elegance and sophistication through the use of very light grid squares.Just my 2 cents. |

Hi Peter Great job your doing and hope some day to be in the same picture as you. Starting as a newbie isn't all that easy, but getting there. Couple questions, one can you post your link to your blog, or where do I find it? Number two question, what is a good number of key words to have in your main page. Still waiting on godaddy to get my site ready, today is number four in waiting, but maybe tomorrow it will be ready. Keep up the great work and enjoying your posts. Dave |

Hi LJJewell, Sorry I have to say I do not quite understand what you are trying to tell me. I'm guessing you are trying to interpret my blog colors perhaps? Hi Dave, Thanks for your kind words. My link to my blog is at my signature below. Unfortunately there isn't a magic number of keywords to have in your main page. There are many factors affecting it. You should read up a few of my link building strategy posts to understand this in totality: DIY SEO Work Hope it helps Peter Lee |

Hi Peter, Thanks for visiting and leaving your comment on my new blog. I try to go around to other blogs to leave comment still when I have a chance and it does not matter we're in the contest. I've spent a lots of time to read for more informations both in forum & blogs. Also I'm learning html so I can change color or add/create new page in the future. Thanks Kha |

Hi Kha, No question about it, using your blog and doing blog commenting is a great way to build relationship with other bloggers. It just gives a little personal touch to your communication with your readers and customers. It is the most effective method of driving traffic to your site. Like you, I read a lot too and applying what works and what don't while it helps me write more topics offering a different perspective than others. Peter Lee |

I'm very sure many of you have already made it to page 1, perhaps #1 too. I hope that those who did will share your thoughts on what you did to keep your SERP. I'm sure many of us would like to hear it too as part of our learning process. As you know SEO is a long term process and any sharing of this information would help our PIPS business one way or the other. Thanks in advance, Peter Lee |

Hi Peter, Congratulations on your page one position - your blog is fantastic and you have done an excellent job of making the PIP site your own. I think if you keep doing what you are doing with your regular unique content and your backlinks and I am sure you will be at the top of page one for that phrase soon. Cheers, Suzanne |

1) creating a new page based around different keywords (usually less competitive keywords than my home page) 2) linking that page within my menu structure of my site 3) writing and distributing an article and putting the link to that new page in the resource box of an article (deep linking) 4) social bookmarking the new page Step (3) is usually the thing that pushes that new page into the results. Here are a few examples of sub pages on my site where I have a page one ranking in Google.com : Legitimate Home Business Ideas SEO Made Easy How to Start an Ebay Business Article Submission Directories These are just a few examples, but it is easier to get more traffic from optimizing lots of individual pages than by squeezing more and more keywords into your home page. If you pick a really low competition keyword you don't need to bother with step (3) but if you are aiming higher then you really need to build deep links to the new pages too. Cheers, Suzanne | |

Hi Suzanne, Thanks for sharing such good information and I'm sure many others who read it will be happy they did. Personally I find creating sub pages a little difficult for me as my site is a static one. I know yours is too so I guess it's not a very good reason, so it's probably due to my own ignorance. But I would think that going web 2.0 for my pips site may help for people like me. So at the moment I'm using my blog to do most of what you mentioned. I also just created a new wp blog solely for linking strategy and to start ranking for some more keywords. It got indexed by Google within the same day so I'm ready to get to work. Thanks again for your valuable insight and for responding to my request for some information on how to maintain your SERP. That really was top notch stuff! Peter Lee |

Hi Peter, In my opinion, this strategy works perfectly well with a blog (esp Wordpress) since each post is effectively a new page on your site anyway. Cheers, Suzanne |
