Isn't it All in the List. If you have a List of 75,000 - 100,000 then surely making these top positions is a given.
Just build that List, because without it all you can do is sell on eBay until the List is respectable.

LOL ... This is an old thread from back in March that has been brought back to the top again.

Quite a bit has changed at SFI since this thread was first started. For example, SFI has recently introduced the VersaPoints system and so far it seems to be firing up and inspiring a lot of affiliates.

Also, a few minutes ago I discovered that SFI has just awarded me with 500 or more co-sponsored affiliates, with at least one of them already an Executive Affiliate! That is awesome!

I received these co-sponsored assignments as a reward for a certain level of achievement last month. Numerous other SFI affiliates also received a number of co-sponsored affiliates.

Hi GT,

I think all SFI members are still getting to grips with Versapoints but posts like this give a lot of inspiration to others and proves that the new system can pay off with hard work,

well done,

Mal.

Hello, all:

It's good to read your comments. Stone and Ewan have certainly established themselves as leaders and each have achieved a level of success to which we all attain.

By the same token, there are other up-and-coming PIPS members gradually making progress towards their web biz marketing goals and I always enjoy reading their success stories along the way.

Hello, Palitra:

Yes, there is much to learn at SFI. It all takes time. I recommend you log in to your
SFI Affiliate Center, then click on the link for LaunchPad Training.

This might help you to focus a bit better on the essentials.

I made BTL status last month. So far I still show as being a BTL, although my VP is lower than 3,000 at this point due to a new month.

Not sure what that will do commission wise. I like the VP system as it helps motivate new affiliates to get going, but if they don't make any investment into the business, then how does it help you as the sponsor? Becoming EA via the VP system I don't think has any benefit for the sponsor as they didn't make a purchase of any kind. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I love SFI and endorse it entirely, but before the VP system I was making a lot more in commissions. Since then the pay has decreased immensely. I believe another change is necessary.

Any thoughts?

I agree, I love SFI, but I almost always hate the huge changes they make every couple years or so. Don't think I have ever seen a change they made where my monthly commissions actually increased.

Back in 2003 (when I first started) through 2004 my sponsor and several people I knew were making $4000+ per month from SFI. Then in the beginning of 2005 they made a change and it destroyed the income of many of these top earners, and quite a few of them never recovered, and ended up quitting.

I know a LOT of people complained to Gery and tried getting it changed back but it didn't happen.

By then I had started doing pretty well too but the change dropped my earnings to the point where I considered cancelling. I built it back up but in my opinion the pay plan has never been as good as it was back before the 2005 change.

Since then every big change they have implemented has either decreased my monthly earnings or had no effect on them... Never an increase! Even though every time they make a change SFI always talks about how whatever change they made has dramatically increased business and earnings and everything is so much better, but I've never seen the fruits of it.

Don't get me wrong, I do think SFI is a great opportunity and I will always be grateful for them, but they need to figure out how to make a change that actually increases commissions.

You can find internet marketing strategies, SEO consulting, and tons of business advice at BAM!

If I would have to guess I'd say the changes are more fruitful for them, not the affiliates. I honestly wish that wasn't the case, but it obviously appears that way. Yes, changes need made that benefit the hard working affiliates.

I would really love to get Stone's input on the changes as I'm sure they're affecting him in a big way as well.

All I can say is Stone is in another world. He is the most positive, unflappable person I have ever known.

I do not think he would even know how to think anything negative. He would just move on and if he was losing some money he would find something else to replace it.

One of the most meaningful things he ever said to me is 'do not feed negativity'. Once in a while it keeps me from getting off into something unpleasant, and I wish I had whatever it is he has that makes him who he is.

Is he successful because of his mindeset or is his mindset the result of his success?

That's a great question, Pat.

In my opinion, I would have to say his mindset is a result of his success. Because for me, I'm negative about things as I haven't quite found that level of success I'm aiming for. If I had, the negatives wouldn't affect me at all. I would just do as he does and move on without a care.

I do think that's a great mindset to have even if you aren't quite where you want to be yet. A positive mindset can help to keep one motivated and focused. I must say, though, that it's hard to always have a positive attitude. It's something I struggle with daily, but something I'm working on.

It's great that Stone has found that level of success and doesn't get bothered by negativity. We can sure look up to him in many ways.

Hey, Alan and Trent:

Your thoughts and opinions about SFI reflect mine fairly closely. I like the VersaPoints system for reasons you mentioned.

Although there is very little monetary value when one of your PSAs achieves Executive Affiliate (EA), you do get 100 VP when that happens. Sometimes, that could help you to get into a higher bracket where your commission percentages might be higher. In the long run, it probably doesn't mean much unless you are generating a lot of retail sales.

Depending on any backroom deals Stone may or may not have with SFI, if his commissions are affected as much as the rest of ours have been, then I suspect we could be looking at another change in the PIPS program in the near future. Time will tell.

I doubt it, GT. Maybe you are right, who knows.

Howver, I think the fact that you can join free (only 1 other now) and that it has a 20 year track record of being a stable, legitimate entity with numerous products may give it a teflon coating.

You could be right though - I am still shocked IMC was removed because the products weren't converting well (I assume because they were too expensive).

I guess we will all see what happens...

I just wonder how much of a cow people would have if he did that - SFI seems like a program people really believe in and rely on - but I guess maybe not if they are losing momentum.

I do notice that most programs are geared toward rewarding aggressive salesmanship and not really very empathetic toward those that are still learning...

I hear you Alan - I too struggle with negativity daily. I have always been drawn to it like a magnet. I can really get off into a 'mood'. I am getting better at 'reprogramming' but not there yet.

It just occurred to me all the momentum I waste when I get off into negativity - It's like there is the situation that is negative - unavoidable - but then if I start 'stewing' about it I waste a lot more time and worse, motivation.

Oh but to just do the 'move on' dance, I could be on my way to turning whatever it is into something positive - like Plan B... I guess that was my point.

Point well taken, Pat. I have a handful of "Plan B's" that I can revert to. Guess I should use my energy to motivate myself to get around to doing them.

Business Principles Can be Brutal!
Hi, Patricia:

Thanks for your response to my comment. You make a good point regarding SFI's long and strong track record. Even through periodic changes, SFI has proven to be a stable standard and I know that is one of the qualities that Stone looks for in the Plug-In Profit Site portfolio.

Regarding another comment you made, also quoted above, I've been seeing more of that over the past year, too. (Maybe it's always been there, but I've just been noticing it.) Some programs are very strongly emphasizing a focus on telephone marketing.

I don't question that telephone marketing works and that it probably works better than standard Internet Marketing, but I got into Internet Marketing because of the hope and promise of building a business online WITHOUT telephone marketing. I know there are numerous aspiring Internet Marketers who feel the same way; they may have little skill and (like me) no desire for telephone marketing.

I also got involved in Internet Marketing because I want to work from home and enjoy what I'm doing ... and for me, there is NO joy in telephone marketing! ... lol

The unfortunate(?) fact in any form of marketing is that success is measured by sales, and the greatest rewards most often go to those who can sell. Product manufacturers and suppliers seek and reward aggressive salesmanship.

(But that doesn't mean you can't learn to be a successful Internet Marketer without telephone selling! It's a big market and if you learn your IM lessons and apply what you learn, you CAN do it! ... Many are.)

Hi GT -

I would rather have a root canal than telephone anyone! That is where Internet Marketing, although a 'sort' of 'Network Marketing', kind of branches off. Internet uses primarily internet, networking uses phones, meetings, etc.

Having said that if someone asked me to call them specifically I would do it. Just not getting out the list and reading a script so that people go: 'who'? 'what'? 'where?' 'NO'!

There used to be a 'club' around here that charged as much as $1-$2 PER lead! and these were extra exclusive, totally premium, etc. Even those, people were like 'who?' 'where did you get my name'? 'I am not interested in home business'. (these were "fresh", "surveyed" leads, LOL)

Nope it takes a certain personality to be a salesman - marketing is different in my opinion - and it lends itself well to the internet technologies. Stone and for example someone like Ewen Chia, do quite well with eMail and etc., and bet you a buck they never call anyone.

There is a gray area of course in building 'relationships' and as I said, if someone ASKS me to call, that is the only time I will call.

You are on a whole different playing field when they come to you and ask you for something - information, or whatever - rather than you going to them and try to interest them.

Having said that I know that a lot of big internet marketing businesses say to call everyone right away when you get leads. Then they tell you how they have 10,000 or 100,000 on their 'list' - well I will bet you they NEVER called 10,000 or even 1000 people in their lifetime. Give me a penny for every one they DIDN'T call and I will be rich.

Really with the network marketing model (matrix, etc) I guess you could see it as calling your 'top 10' and then the 10 call 10 and so forth - maybe that is how it works. While I don't think they are lying, I just don't see how it is possible to call 1000's of people...

Hi GT and Pat, I can certainly attest to your objections when it comes to calling leads. For a time I called leads for an insurance company to set up appointments for agents. I got paid commission for each appointment that was made. Needless to say that job was absolutely atrocious. I didn't do too bad at it, but I hated it.

I couldn't stand it and would never call leads for my business especially after having experienced it first-hand. That seems like a total waste of time and effort, and trust me, it takes a lot of effort. That time and energy could be much better spent doing more productive things for your business.

I like Daegan Smith's slogan: "The king of never calling a single lead."

Yep, that's a great slogan! I have never called a lead and probably never will. I'll talk to them if they call me but I don't go looking for people to call.

By the way, I used to know Daegan Smith back in the day. We would talk on the phone quite a bit as well as online. I actually sort of helped him get started in his online business. It's been a few years now since I have talked to him though. He has done very well for himself!

September commissions are now posted.

I earned my highest yet, but only a buck more than I had earned some earlier month. It's a lot higher than what I earned for August, though, so I'm pleased. I at least made money instead of lost it. Guess there is a benefit to reaching the next income level even if you only have a couple of EA's.

How did everyone else do?

Hey, Congrats, Alan!

I love success stories ... even if they can only be measured one dollar at a time.

However ... as to MY September SFI commissions!!

They are the lowest they have ever been since I joined SFI two years ago. My September commissions came in at only about 20% of what they were in August.

If SFI keeps "improving" at this rate, I'm going to have to start paying THEM every month!

It's interesting because in addition to personally sponsoring about 30 affiliates in September, SFI also gave me about 500 co-sponsored affiliates. Looks like that had no impact on my group sales volume. And it looks like the few EAs I had in September did nothing for my commissions.

So, what it tells me is that with all of the wonderful improvements to the SFI compensation plan, all it did for me was cut my monthly commissions to about 20-30% of what they used to be each month last year, up until January this year.

(The "improvements" introduced in January cut my monthly commissions to less than half of what they were through 2008.)

By the way, I take an active role with the affiliates I sponsor: I send welcome letters to all of my new personally sponsored affiliates and I send an enthusiastic training message via the SFI Group Mail every week.

Interesting. Frustrating, and interesting.

I hear ya, GT. I send out welcome letters, broadcasts and also have a training newsletter that quite a few sign up for. Still, I'm not seeing too much action taken by my affiliates.

This month's commissions were a bit higher than previous months. At least it is able to pay itself and leave something to help me advertise and market SFI. The trouble I have is how to motivate the other free affiliates. I do write to them, only a few respond, others do not log into their accounts. I don't know if everyone is experiencing this kind of draw back on 'downline'. There are about 500 plus affiliate... Any ideas please!!

Hi Charles,

It's hard to say. Many of us are facing the same issues. I would say just continue to follow up with them and keep motivating them. The more they see your messages, the better chance they will take action. Also, the timing may not be right for them right now, but later on it might be. You just never know, but don't lose hope.

Hello, Charles:

I really appreciate Alan's answer.

We can't see around the corner, so it is important to keep doing the things we know we should be doing to build our business, even when it seems like we are making no progress.

Too often, we get frustrated and are tempted to just give up. But you know what they say: you're either moving forward or moving backward - you can never stand still. Sometimes, it is better to keep working, even if it seems like we are getting nowhere, because if we stop working, we will definitely get nowhere!

Thanks Alan and G.T for the encouraging words. When you are alone, one would think the world is not on your favor and give up easily. But when everyone is facing the same problem/issues,you would feel comfortable and continue striving onwards and pressing forward. That is the beauty of this forum!

Hi,

As a long standing fan of SFI, I am reluctant to criticise the program but my take on the VP system is this:-

The new system is great for loading the front end of your business because it is now so easy for new starters to fill out the Launchpad and VP task pages and to qualify for EA quickly by completing simple tasks.

So far so good but what happens if they don’t buy or sell or recruit after that, this is where it falls short because you can recruit dozens of EA’s which in the old system would have guaranteed you a monthly commission which was more than enough to cover your EA fee and the rest was profit.

I too became BTL (again) in September after being BTL for some time and then being demoted to EA when the new system started (not very motivating). It was only after that when I started to realise the true effect of the VP system on existing team leaders.

I now pay my EA fee by standing order by buying 10 x $1.99 credits each month from my own TC store (1500 VP points) so my EA fee now has gone down to $19.90. I can make a maximum of 2000 VP’s from my TC store if I want to which means that I have to make another 1000 -1500 VP’s every month by other means to reach the 3000 VP’s that I must have to maintain BTL.

I will reserve judgement on this for another month or two but it seems that SFI are trying to become another Ebay and my focus has always been on recruitment and not on selling products. The basic flaw as I see it is that I can build up a big team of EA’s and spend a lot of money on recruitment costs every month and if I ever fall short of 3000 VP’s in any month or if my existing EA’s are not active then I will be demoted to EA and I won’t make any commissions from my teams sales.

just my thoughts,

Mal.

You are absolutely 100% accurate. It reminds me of GoldmanSachs and how they own part of the Federal Reserve

Looks like SFI is shaking the tree to weed out all the none active affiliates. I joined SFI last month and made EA in 3 days. Big Whoop. This month I'm having problems earning the points required to stay an EA, without buying my way in. Sure I have 7 affiliates under me...but only one has even signed-in this month. So I'm glad that they have a 500 VP point each month to stay active....hopefully if I get my EA again this month...I'll be assigned some affiliates that are least trying.
