Checking Your competition Links
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hi Everyone

As you all know we can check our own pages and links on google webmaster tools, but we cant check the competition..

If you go on yahoo.com and in search you put for example i'll use my site linkdomain:www.makemoneyatyourhomeonline.com press search it will show how many pages and links i've got going to my site..

So if your looking on page 1 of google you will see who's ranking high in your keywords then go over to yahoo type in linkdomain plus there website address then you can find out how many pages + links they have going to there site, so you will know what your up against.

Hope This Helps.

That is a great way to see what your competition is doing but if you just focus on getting on as many websites as possible, one day everyone will envy you for getting so many links.

This is an ongoing process and if you do it on a daily basis, imagine how many back links you are going to have in ONE year.

I've got a couple tools I use to check competition but I paid for both of them. Using Yahoo is a good way to do it for free.

While constantly building your site and it's backlink knowing your competition for keywords is vital to being successful. Not knowing your competition is a quick way to failure.

My favorite tool for this is WebCompAnalyst. When I am looking to expand keywords on a site or when building a new site, I want keywords with the most searches and the least competition. Once I select my keywords I'll use WebCompAnalyst to see how tough the competition is. If the competition is to tough, meaning they have worked hard at backlinks and page rank and it will take me a long time to beat them, I'll go down my keyword list until I find the keywords i can rank for and make money with. For me, there's no point spending months trying to beat some one out of a search position so i can make some money when I can start making money quickly using the right keywords from the start.

So Yea, work hard and "build build build" but work smart while your at it. You might find you won't have to work as hard.

Anyway, good post. people need to know their competition so they don't waste a lot of time.

This is very helpful, I tried that but I used your website, so this is great and a very useful piece of information. I want to thank you for posting. I am one that didn't know about this or that you could do this simply because I am new, but just so you know your post has been a huge help.

These are all great tips and very useful to those of us who are new. I am trying to learn all I can at this point on backlinking, since this seems to be one way to get your website out there and eventually get it going on auto-pilot for traffic. I am certainly going to check out the WebCompAnalyst, especially if it saves time. Just so I don't get something confused, so we certainly need to be keeping in mind as we are choosing our keywords, we want to make sure we are choosing those with the "most searches and least competition", correct, hopefully I'm understanding this correctly and I don't confuse anyone else with my question.
Thank you
Jenny

Hi,

All very good information. I do some basic research using some of the tools mentioned but I like going for the heavy hitters when I have hit page 1 for some longer tail keywords.

Steve is correct in working smart because you should focus on making money immediately with keywords you can rank for fast and still make money.

For example one of my old sites I took on the keywords "work from home" and "work at home". It was a 2 year journey but I made it and reaped the rewards of traffic, sales, and money. I sold the site for big dollars about 2 years ago. Guess what? The site is still on page 1 for those keywords and the new owners are not doing much in terms of backlinking (I checked..LOL).

With a site I bought from Trent Browning that was already established:

Internet Home Business Ideas | Online Home Business Opportunities

I targeted some long tail keywords and got to page 1 but my overall long term thought process was to get to page 1 for a monster keyword so I targeted "home business". Been at this for several months and now I am towards the top of page 2 for this keyword. I already see increased traffic and sales and will push till I get to the Top 5 on page 1....

Then what will I do?

Target another monster keyword...

Then repeat the process just making sure I still get backlinks for "home business" so I dont lose my original rankings....

Everyone here gave great information but it does take hard work....

Best of luck to everyone!

I just use a seo plugin for firefox
The trouble is you might see a backlink from say ezinearticles or say blogger.com and someone like me will blast that backlink with 100k backlinks either by scrapebox or xrummer(because of their Google trust they can handle this).
It looks like I have 10 backlinks
I have lots more then that
Good place to start I guess
