Hi everyone, When I post a blog on my website does that give me automatic RSS feeds for my blog using pingomatic each time I post a blog? Can someone explain that to me. Thanks Dianne

Hi Dianne,

Your blog has always had an RSS feed. It's built in to every blog from the very beginning.

Using a pinging service such as Ping-O-Matic allows the different services such as Technorati to know that you've updated your blog. This will update the appropriate feed that Technorati has for your blog so that others on Technorati will see the new content that you've posted. This is just one example.

Hope that helps explain it.

Alan

Another great plugin for wordpress is the Smart Update Pinger, which I use as opposed to the standard wordpress one.

Services are only pinged when a new post is created not when you edit an existing post (which is how the standard one works).

Really simple to use.

Regards
Mark

Hi Mark,
My WordPress does not have the Smart Update Pinger and I did not know the
services are only pinged when a new post is created not when you edit an existing post.
I use Ping-O-Matic, autopinger.com, pingmyblog.com, pingoat.com.

Thanks
Kha

Is it really necessary to ping your post if you edit it? If you make a lot of edits within a short time, and all of those pings are going out, that can also be a bad thing. Ping-o-matic doesn't like getting pings from the same IP address within a very short amount of time.

I like Maxblogpress Ping Optimizer.

If you ping the same sites more than once, as what happens when you use multiple ping services, you can be quickly marked a spam site. I suggest using one site and sticking to it. Then social bookmark your new post to as many sites as possible.

I used to use Ping-o-matic until it stopped working for me for some reason. I now use IPings.com.

Hi, Guys:

I started with Ping-O-Matic, too, until it stopped working for me ... ? ... And I'm certain I wasn't posting too often.

Right now, I use four pinging services: I'll send pings via the first one; then use the second one for sites not pinged in the first; then the third in the same way, then the fourth.

- Feeds Pings ipings.com
- Autopinger - Automates Ping Blog and Podcast for Free Autopinger.com
- PingMyBlog.com pingmyblog.com
- Blog and ping | Pingoat pingoat.com

Steve, I'll have to check out Maxblogpress Ping Optimizer and see if it's better than the four I'm using now.

GT, do look at their plugins for WordPress. They have several free one's that work great. One will add a top bar to your blog that is an advertisement for whatever you choose and another is an unstoppable popup if you like popups. You can see the top bar on their site, MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer

I am an affiliate of theirs so if you would like to buy the free stuff let me know.

Hi, Steve:

I am still exclusively with Blogger (hosted on my domain), but I still plan to take advantage of the free Wordpress blog set-up offered by the PPG mentors ... someday. Then we'll see about the free stuff you have for sale.

If you have a WordPress blog you can add or check your list of ping sites in the Writing Settings menu. Depending on your version of WP go to Settings or Options, Writing and scroll down to see the Update Services list.

I see a lot of WP blogs that are not configured to take full advantage of what WP has to offer like not able to upload images in posts, can't update plugins automatically and just basic usage to take full advantage. Too bad there isn't a dedicated WordPress thread in here or the PPG that those of us with more knowledge can help others with their WP blogs...

I do suggest getting a plugin like Smart Update pinger so you don't ping the same post twice. And if you have an extensive list of sites configured in your WP blog DO NOT use any other outside pinging sites! Below is a list of sites to put either in the Smart Update Pinger or in the Writing submenu.

Try using http://pingoat.com as it allows you to include your site/blog rss feed along with your url before you 'ping'!
