Page Rank Update - Did you get it?
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

I just realized that there was a PR update by Google or I think so as mine's changed. My home page just got back PR3 after dropping to 2 during the last update. And surprisingly my new blog Make Money Blogging which I started on Dec 1 and primarily for link building strategy got PR1 just with 10 posts and about 290 backlinks. Just proves yet again that there is no such thing as Google penalty for duplicate contents (Google rewards me!) as I had used my own submitted articles to post. My blog remains PR3 (has been for too long, if you asked me). My Google backlinks increased only by another 30 (Mr G is pretty stingy here).

Well at least I didn't lose any PR this time. Hope everyone has something good to share too. Did you get a higher PR?

HAPPY NEW YEAR MY FRIENDS

Jason,
Don't worry about that and anyway it's just a number. I had my PR dropped from PR3 to PR2 at the last update and now reinstated back to '3'. What can I say except that for Google the only thing consistent is change. You'll get it back or even higher at the next update.

Hi Peter,

I can't recall the technical calculations for link juicing
but in order for you to have good PR, you've got to
have lots of relevant and trusted sites linking back to
you.

Here's what I mean: 500 PR 1 links loses compared to
1 PR 10 link.

So, without giving the game away, the key is to find
high PR sites and to get them to link to your site. I'll
give one clue here... Abobe.com is a PR 10 site and
Adobe.com has a forum.

Piece that idea together and you'd probably get what
I mean.

All the best!

Hi Mari,

Congratulations on getting PR1. It's a good sign that your link building is working well.

Hi Asher,

That's good information you just shared. So I take it that you've participated in Adobe forum. Did you get many backlinks to your site. How are their TOS and is it easy enough to put your signature links there? Anyway thanks for sharing.

Hi Charlene,

Firstly congratulations on getting PR2 and it's something you should be proud of. I don't quite understand what you meant when you said you cannot find your site in the search engine.

Do you mean backlinks:
I found this information:
Yahoo:196
Google:5

Here is a report I generated for your site from WebsiteGrader that I used to monitor my own results:

Website Grader - SEO Tool - Report For www.cashwizzards.com

Do you mean you cannot find your site in the SERP (Search Engine Result Placement)? You have to get much more backlinks (lots) so focus more on blog posting, article writing and blog commenting.

Hope this helps

Peter

Charlene,
There was a typo I meant blog commenting too. Writing everyday -wow that's really great - something I can't afford the time to do as I have a day job. I could only post twice a week, three if I am lucky.

Hi, Peter:

Congrats at getting back to PR3. You work hard at it and deserve it.

My site and blog page are still sitting at PR2 even though I blog regularly and try to add or change content on my homepage periodically.

One of my goals for the new year is to try to find time to improve my backlinks. We'll see how that goes!

GT, re your comment on backlinks, you have over 75,000! I only have less than 2000!!

Hi,Graham:

I have a ton (tonne?) of backlinks but I suspect they are not high quality backlinks or my PR would be better. I'm not 100% certain, but I think I acquired all those back links through intensive forum posting and directory submissions.

A lot of this was due to the PIPS Power Group Summer Contest last year where PPG members were motivated to do a lot of forum commenting, directory submissions and blog commenting, all of which I did with a vengeance for several months.

I still do all of these things, but not to the degree I did them last summer. However, for 2009, I truly want to step up my blog commenting once again.

Regarding blog PR, I had just about given up on ever seeing any kind of PR on my blog when all of a sudden sometime around September, there it was - PR2. It had been 0 until then. The rating showed up about a year after I started blogging, but I don't know if the anniversary date had anything to do with it.

Graham, you inspire me with all that you do and especially with the info, insight and recommendations you share here in the WF and elsewhere in other forums. Keep up the good work!

Thanks GT and Graham. GT wow that's a lot of backlinks. You're 10X more than what I have. Keep it up. Now that you got quantity perhaps concentrate on quality. Hey blog commenting is an excellent idea. I'm seeing substantial growth in my backlinks because I do lots of blog commenting. Good luck.

thanks for perter's post.

I almost want to quit recently after a few month's no movement of my PR. But after seeing this post, I went to check my PR. i SAW some green portion inside the bar. I got upgraded to PR1! at least I saw some light here.

I will hold on there and try harder to improve it.

I was thingking of changing the structure and add more articles. Do you think i should change the structure or do i just add more articles?

Cheers,

Kha,
Congrats. Well PR1 is still better than PR0. You should work on getting more backlinks to your site and blog. Blog commenting is a good way that I've used to get lots of backlinks. That's how I've used it to get more than 7000 backlinks. (Actually it's low compared to my other friends who've been using the same approach. That's because they have more time than me to invest in their link building strategy).

Jennifer,

That's fantastic! Congratulations. You must have done a lot of the right things.
After what you said I was curious so I checked to find out and I can see that you don't have too many backlinks and just from this report alone, your SEO on your site can be improved much further. So I'm guessing that you probably have quite a few quality links proving that having few quality links beats hundreds of worthless links. Here's your report:

Website Grader - SEO Tool - Report For www.something-big.net

Congratulations again,

Peter

I just went from a PR 1 to a PR 2. One thing that I do is check my reciprocal links to make sure my site is still linked to all the sites that I exchanged with. If you find that you are linked to a site that is not active I would remove it immediately. Dead links can kill your PR.

Hmm I seemed to be stuck at zero on both blogs and website. I wonder if there is something Im missing or just not doing right. I know that my site used to be a 2 and ever since I've really worked on links....down to a 0.

just keep on keeping on I guess...

Hi Steve,

Yes, checking that your reciprocal link partners continue to link to you is important, although I find this task painful over time and especially if you have 3-way linking. Another important thing to do is check that all outbound links are still valid. I used a 'Broken Link Checker' WP plugin and I simply loved it. Now I can tell if all my outbound links are working as the plugin shows up on my WP Admin page anytime the link goes dead. It's my e-watch dog. If you're interested, the plugin link is in my post:

Hi Charles,

I don't think there is any direct correlation between PR and sales. PR could be "0" but traffic could be way up. As long as you get traffic, you'll get sales, assuming conversions are good.

Hope that helps.

Great question Charles.

I was thinking that Google may rank your pages higher in the search engines if you have a higher PR. But it seems that even though my site is a PR0 and has been a PR 0 for quite some time, my traffic still is gradually improving.

I am so confused because I have read some articles regarding a PR0 rank as being a penalty from Google, yet have NO IDEA why Google would penalize me.

Anyway, the only real thing I can see it affecting (if it does not affect traffic)is how authoritative your own site is. Which in turn would affect how much you can earn or charge from advertising space or the sale of your domain.

Matt said it pretty well. It's just a gauge for authority and how other webmasters and site owners view your site. You can use it as a leverage for your on-site advertising. Other than that it's just a number.

My page rank continue to be PR3 and my website presence and daily visitors are improving. I think the income is based on conversion of a visitor to a customer that need more focus as it depends also on how long a visitor stays on visiting the site.

While PR has no direct relation with income, I think PR really helps on the advertising campaigns you are targeting. Another interesting thing I noticed is that people tend to visit high authority sites with obvious reasons. A high PR is considered an important ingredient of an authority site, so I would say if you have a high PR, it attracts more comments too. It's just my 2-cents. Feel free to disagree with me.
