There are many big companies earning big bucks using twitter as one of their marketing methods. One good example is Dell which recently made $1m profit right of twitter.

So, I strongly encourage you guys to go on twitter, sign up if you haven't got and start marketing and networking using twitter. It is a tool that is getting so powerful and unstoppable.

I agree - if you are not using Twitter, it is very easy to use.

You just need to register at Twitter: What are you doing? and fill in your profile. Then find some people to start following by using the search facility. Usually when you follow someone they will follow you too.

It only take a minute or two a day to make a post in Twitter and you can add a link to your updates e.g. your latest blog post, an article or some interesting news.

Yes, definately use Twitter, however do not get on Twitter and start spamming. Try to limit updates with a salesy pitch to 1 out of every 6 or so. For the rest, put interesting information or links that you may have discovered or that you are engaged in. I saw a Twitter user who actaully put a sales pitch and link to their product/website in every update. No other interesting updates at all. This is very uncool and obnoxious and will get you blocked real fast.

This thread is cool and especially all the tips given by "lianwei".

Just a short statistic: I use twitter since 18/10/08 and involved myself actively only the last two weeks. From OCT till end DEC I had approx. 150 followers, but when I started actively I received almost 300 more
followers and that just by beeing friendly to people and offer help. Additionally I look out for people who have a balance between
following people and followers in their profile. Currently I concentrate on people who have more than 2000 followers, because this is the magical stage where your twitter account will take off. Meaning you will get loads of requests when you offer value to people. What I do is getting people to link up with me as well on FB, too. This builds a bond and you will have more insight what the individual person is up to. A great person I follow currently next to twitter on various other social sites is Perry Belcher, who is a great teacher and mentor in this field. I suggest you go and google his name. As well look out for my youtube profile with my user name "TheRealAlexanderPaul" and friend me there as well to find a selection of Perry's videos. Additionally to Perry, I have to confess that I met a handfull of power people who give so much value to our community and all of them earn big bucks. Just go on to facebook and friend me (see link under my photo) and I let you know the names. I tell you, TWITTER
is currently THE tool to make your business run in 2009 and you should jump on board asap.

I just opened up a Twitter account after reading this thread, and hope to learn more about how to incorporate it into my marketing "routine". Hi lianwei,

Good post about Twitter, it’s a useful networking tool which I have been using for a few months and it’s a great idea by Suzanne that we should all follow each other as it has worked very well with stunble links in another post.

However, I do agree with Zirkamer that spamming is not cool, the whole idea of Twitter is to make social contacts first after which you can also promote links to your website, blog or anything you like basically but there are those on Twitter who blatantly spam on every update.

I agree, I am getting up to speed on twitter. The nice thing is if you submit articles to EzineArticles, you can plug your twitter I.D. into your back office and every time they approve your articles, they will do an automatic broadcast to your list.

I've been using Twitter for a few months but haven't taken full advantage of it. I just started working on building my following and have added 50 over the weekend.

Sign into EzineArticles account
Go to members area
click on "Profile Manager"
click on "Edit Author Bio"
under all the URL's - enter http://www.twitter(dot)com/ShaunaHanus -- replace (dot) with "."
then go down and enter your twitter username and password
click green box at the bottom to "save changes"

When they approve your articles, they will automatically broadcast it from your account for all your followers to see.

Hi PIPsters,

I like the idea of twitter as a tool to networking. I'm couple months now with them and so far all looks good.

I started following all with "twitter usernames" noted from top of this thread right down to bottom of page. Hope you guys will do the reverse.

Another advantage I found is when I surf for credits, twitter sends a message (url) to my followers to update them of what I'm busy doing.

It is great so see so much feedback and that you all enjoy this new tool to promote your business (I hope) at the backend.

Just remember as an ettiquet: do not promote your business upfront, because people do not like that. It is better to build up followers who like you and at the links you place (e.g. on facebook) you let people know what you are doing. I tremendously like the article twitter option, which was mentioned above. Always when a new articel was approved a new tweet will be issued. As well the tweets about beeing active on the traffic-exchanges gives you free exposure, without lifting a finger manually on Twitter.

I'm pretty sure you all getting now in the swing how twitter works and that there are loads of "twitter guru's" out there who are all starting to cashing in on passing on their twitter experience. Just let me know if you need "free" advise who to follow to get the most out of twitter. My personal favourite is currently www.twitter.com/perrybelcher , who spreads so much valuable information about twitter for free on various sites. Just find him for instance on youtube.com.

Within the last couple of weeks Perry changed his strategy how to get closer bonds with people by refering them to additional social media sites and join them there as well. I believe this is a great Idea, what will give you the opportunity to market on various patforms to the same people. Just think: followers from twitter are connected to you via facebook, myspace, youtube and as well linkedin. This gives the individual so much transparency to foster a (business)relationship much quicker than on twitter alone. Now if you are interested in how to achieve that just follow my steps and see how I setup my twitter account. From www.twitter.com/AlexanderPaul I link to www.twitter.com/alexslinks and ask people there to join all my other social media sites - how great is that? On the profile on my "links twitter account" you can then re-direct people to your homebiz/blog/articels or wherever you like. As well when you go over to www.twitter.com/alexslinks you will find at the bottom links to my PIPS site and a link to MagnetigSponsoring, to have all necessary links at one place I capitalize from. But make sure that you do not add to much entries on the links twitter side, so that valuable entries will slip down into "OLDER" and are no more visible on the frontpage.

Hope the above makes sense to you and is of value, so that you can start maximize your time and efforts with this new communicaion tool.
