I use forwarding and cloaking extensively for one of my businesses. Very simple to do. I use godaddy for those domains and it takes about 2 minutes tops to do it.

What you are referring to (i think) is only used for click tracking.

Clicktracking creates a really ugly URL something like this http://getresponse.3p3e4d545qdkd3j33

This replaces your PIPS domain/sales page URL

So instead of the ugly URL, if you have a domain name that you are not using for anything else (NOT your PIPS domain) then you can add it in the settings. Everytime your affiliate clicktracking link is implied, instead, a nice URL like http://abc.com url will display.

I think it is definitely preferable to the ugly URL.

Pat,
It is supposed to replace the getresponse with yourdomain in all of your links. Getresponse says it can be done by redirecting a domain, or a sub domain. Host4profit support said that a sub domain can be re-directed.
I would love to try it, but I don't dare. Don't want to make anymore headaches for you Pat,LOL, I have given you enough.

But it would be nice for your customers to see
http://support.m-and-c-solutions.3p3e4d545qdkd3j33
rather than
http://getresponse.3p3e4d545qdkd3j33
and of coarse without the ugly tracking id. It would also be good for helping to brand yourself.

Like I say tho, I don't dare.LOL It looks like it should be easy, but, everyone here knows I'm kinda ummmm dense.

Mike - no trouble for me because it is about Getresponse and they do what they do - it really doesn't have anything to do with me.

If you are suggesting I can change their protocol or procedures, I wish that was possible in some cases, but I can tell you right now they are not responsive to changing anything on our account. As big of a customer as we are, we are just one of their customers and they definitely don't tailor their system to accomodate us in most cases.

So all I can tell you is to ask them exactly what to do and then ask Host4Profit exactly how to do it.

However the idea is to get rid of the big long number and just replace it with a domain name, so the getresponse would not be there anymore.

In other words

http://support.m-and-c-solutions.com (sub-domain)

or

http://m-and-c-solutions.com (domain)

would replace

http://getresponse.3p3e4d545qdkd3j33

I feel dizzy now. LOL.

Pat,

It gave me a headache too. This page talk about it, also at the bottom is a section where you set it up.
Customize Domain

At the bottom of the page is a box to set-up a new domain name or transfer a domain or sub-domain.
I guess what has me puzzled, isn't a sub-domain basically an empty folder in the main directory where you would put all your pages and files relating to support?

From the responses to this thread, not many pipsters have tried this, perhaps for good reason.LOL

Thanks for your time and input

Let me try to clarify the confusion that I have probably caused with this thread.

I'll start with what getresponse domain forwarding or customizing does:

Any link or e-mail response will have the getresponse.com replaced with yourdomain or subdomain.com.

It will not change the ugly tracking link id numbers.

Here is the confusing part, it's the definition or definitions of subdomain.
Subdomain: Subdomain is a domain that is part of a larger domain.
Subdomain indicates relative dependence to the domain but not absolute dependence. Each could exist without the other.
example: yourdomain.com
yourdomain.net
both are actually registered domain

This version of subdomain: support.yourdomain.com will not work for domain forwarding. It is in fact just a folder in the main site directory, in which you support page for your domain. In researching this I have found this version of sub domain to also be called vanity and dummy domain, I am not sure which if either are correct.

In essence for sub domain forwarding to work with get response, it must actually be a registered domain that you will forward to them.

I hope this clears up any confusion I have caused with this post, and perhaps may even help someone to understand this.
