Is It Ethical?...and Other Do's And Don'ts!

Hi everyone,

I recently got an upgrade of my autoresponder. First time having one. So I started play around with it...putting the email series from Jeff's SFI co-op and just trying to figure out how it works.

Now to backtrack a little bit, early last year, a friend of mine had set-up a capture page for me, and the people who signed-up will get a set of video tutorials with my friend teaching about using Google Adwords and it also promotes a physical book. The email series comes from his own autoresponder. The messages are customized having my name in it, just like PIPS.

We did get a few hundreds of sign-ups from my Adwords campaign and from press releases. But I did not get to see the email addresses of those people unless they sign-up for or purchased the book.

Now my question...Is it ethical to import those names and email addresses to my new autoresponder? I'm thinking of sending them a broadcast or two...Is it considered SPAMming?

Also, fellow PIPSters, maybe you could give some advice(s) of other do's and don'ts...things that marketers, newbies or not should avoid at all costs. I'm sure SPAMming is #1...but there are other unethical things we should avoid. Your input will be very helpful.

Thanks,

Robert

In reality the subscribers opted in to receive the email series through your friends autoresponder. Since they didn't optin to receive your autoresponder messages it's best not to add them to your account. They could file a complaint and that will cause you problems the least of which is limiting your new account. Getresponse has strict Spam policies and I wouldn't play with them.

If you were able to collect a bunch of names using Adwords I would run a similar campaign for your autoresponder.

If you still contact the Adwords list, then send them a message in which you mention the PIPS list and INVITE them to opt in. Offer them an incentive to do so, of course.

That way, you'll not be spamming and you'll find out who's still alive from the old list.

Cheers!
