Should I consider a .US domain
Share on:

Hello to All...

I was just wondering what everyone thinks of the .US domains.

I know they have been around for a couple of years now.

Is anyone using a .US domain? Are you having any problems getting rankings?

Thanks in advance...

Hi Chooch,

Personally I do not use anything except .com and a few .net. In the past I used a few .us for a few personal sports sites, but all of my friends could not remember those sites were .us. They thought .com and told their friends it was .com.

As far as ranking is concerned my .us ranked high. Its not that a domain extension cannot be ranked, but since my friends could not get it "fixed" in their heads I ended up selling the domain names.

Jeffery 100% :-)

Hi Chooch,

I owned a domain name using ".us" for lawn mowers and was on page 1 but that was several years ago....

Take care

I used us.com many years back, but I have no idea why I used it now, maybe part of some programme I was in.
Stick to dot com,if you can, there's many 'different' ways you can use it.

I have one .us domain - I am not marketing it but I got it because of 'branding' -

I don't know one day I felt patriotic or something and thought my name sounded good with .us

(both about WE being US and about the USA - US being in the USA

WE R US!

the name has both .net and .us extensions

.net is still my favorite - i know .com is for 'commercial' or 'commerce' and it is always best for business to use .com

i would be rich today if i hadn't gone on domain shopping sprees and bought all kinds of ill-thought out names. i didn't renew most of them at least i was that smart.

Depends on what you are doing with it.
If you are doing off line work stay with .com, as it is easier to remember.
If you are working online a .us is fine, since people are not clicking on the domain, but anchor text.

Thanks for all the comments. I went ahead and got the .us domain.

I'm going to try it on one of my business websites.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks again.

Yes...you have to live in the United States to get a .us domain.

Well, that is not exactly right.
The 3rd nexus category allows foreign registrations with certain conditions:

I just bought another .US domain for only $3.99 (the price is a good selling point)

... and another for this particular name was that the few available configurations of that name that were still available were being sold for as much as $6000!!!

AnneDroid.us (it is so me)

and hanging on to it! (let's hope I find something to do with it)

p.s. I didn't read it but did notice that there were some qualifications listed about the US domicile issues and surmized that there were exceptions for non-US residence.

.. never noticed it before.
