Request for PIPS Sales Page - Tracking Integration
Share on:

It would be really useful if Analytics was integrated into the PIPS sales page (Stat Counter too for those who use it).

All Stone would need to do is a add a new field in the PIPS welcome section alongside where your other ID's are stored where you enter your Analytics ID. Then that is just dynamically inserted into the Analytics code at the bottom of the sales page.

A virtual URL should be added to the apply now button as well.

Perhaps even Adwords conversion code could be inserted too for those who use Adwords.

I am more than happy to help with integrating this.

Cheers,
Mike.

Those would be very handy features, they get my vote.

Hi Mike,

I asked Stone about this a while ago. In particular the adwords conversion tracking.

The problem is - aparantly there are a lot of false signups. Many of the forms that are filled in are not real people signing up, they are people putting incorrect info in there, or bots filling in forms with random stuff. This means that the conversion tracking would not be accurate. I do think that a capcha would help with this, but at the moment there is none in place.

I tried using Adminder ad tracking for a while. This has conversion tracking already integrated with PIPS. I stopped using it as I was getting so many false positive signups. I think this was for the reasons described above.

At the moment I currently do the following:
- use an SFI conversion keycode in my sales page
- I use a framed version of the PIPS page on my site with statcounter in it and this seems to track visitors fine

I agree with you that it would be great to have conversion tracking, but the fact that there are multiple programs involved and there are so many false signups makes this difficult.

Cheers,
Suzanne

You got that right, Suzanne. If even 50% of the applications we receive were valid we would all be wealthy- even after I send a message to everyone of them to correct the information and how to do that specifically, most do not respond - so they are just junk.

There is the ability to set up a captcha on the form site - I am not sure what good that would do however - maybe you can tell me your theory? If I am some teenager getting my big thrill filing out an application just for fun, why couldn't I put in the captcha code?

I already set it not to allow multiple submissions which just protects against bots, and it doesn't stop them from submitting one each day - only two in a row. I have one guy who submits one every few weeks for the past year. I have blocked his IP address and then he just changes it. I would have to block his whole country if I dont' want to see his name ever again.

Hi Pat,

I would have thought that a captcha would really help to cut down on any auto submissions. My guess is that a lot of people use software to go and submit stuff in forms all over the internet - either with malicious intent, or because they may sometimes get a backlink out of it.

Is it not worth a try, since it may reduce your overall spam submissions?

Cheers,
Suzanne

I agree that captcha should drastically reduce the auto submissions. Considering the amount of work it would take to implement it, it's worth a shot for your sake.

As I have mentioned I already have it set to not allow multiple (auto) submissions (from bots). We do not have a problem with multiple submissions.

The problem is with human beings who have nothing to do except fill out applications with invalid information - they could easily also fill out the captcha at the same time.

Hi Pat, I don't think stopping multiple submissions is going to be effective against bots. They run off proxies so every time they visit the page they will have a different IP. I can't see why people would want to be constantly signing up to a page with no intention of joining PIPS. I'd say most of them are likely to be bots.

Sorry, don't mean to gang up on you, but I think the others may be right on this one.

Cheers,
Mike.

Well unless the bots can both change IP addresses and email addresses too I still dont' think the bots get through - ... but yeh, I guess they could change both.

I can see the difference between before I set 'do not allow multiple submissions' and now when it is set - spam down by about 50%.

I do track these on the formsite and by performing searches in Gmail when I recognize the same email address or name.* When I go on the formsite I can see IP and email address and again unless I see them multiple times I will just continue to send the instructions on how to correct the invalid information (really this is only about domain name/hosting)

(*extreme cases I will contact their email client and complain about harassment and ask them to shut down the email account - only 1 in 9 the reply is that it is not really their account but someone somewhere is just using it for a return address - which would be like a bot).

Cousins of spammers are trolls. we all know trolls just want to disrupt and I have no doubt in my mind these are some ugly trolls sitting in cyber cafe's with nothing better to do with their limited mental faculties.

Having said that I would have no problem with a Captcha - Stone can do whatever he wants if he wants to set Captcha that is fine with me - in fact anything that helps my stress level and homicidal tendencies is all good.

I actually think a $1.00 admin fee would be reasonable and would discourage wierdos who think it is a game. (Stone didn't agree).

I just implemented a Captcha on the new member sign up form. It's actually not revealed until after the form is first submitted on the PIPS sales page. Doing it this way will also give new members a chance to review their information one more time before final submission.

I'll post again soon to let you know if this is working out alright and if it makes a big difference in fake PIPS applications. If it does, AdMinder conversion tracking will be more accurate.

Also, I'm going to look at the adding the tracking options you've suggested Mike to the PIPS sales page. I'll let you know what I decide soon as well.

Thanks!

Stone

Thanks Stone, I think it will be a great addition. It's not going to be easy though due to the fact that the form is hosted on a different site. Unless once the form has been submitted the person is then sent to a thank you page which resides on the pluginprofitsite.com domain. That could be used as the conversion point.

FYI -

Unfortunately, I have just as much if not more spam than usual - Captcha has done nothing to improve it -

Thanks, anyway.
