Day #25: Pinging your blog with Ping-O-Matic
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

It's not mentioned in the training guide how to find your RSS feed so you can ping that also, because that is really important!

With WordPress, the platform on which the PIP sites are built, all you do is add /feed at the end of your site's URL and your RSS feed pops right up in your browser.

So for instance partnerwithksm.info/feed is my RSS feed URL.

I actually wrote an article about the importance of your RSS feed:
Using Your RSS Feeds To Market Your Blog Content | The Best Work At Home Business

So on ping-o-matic, don't forget to add your RSS feed URL and get that pinged along with your domain.

Hope this helps some people!

WordPress 3.x the RSS feed is automatically updated and submitted when a new page or post is published.

WordPress automatically pings the Ping-O-Matic resources (URLs).
Dashboard > Settings > Writing > Update Services:

When you publish a new post, WordPress automatically notifies the following "default sites" update services. For more about this, see Update Services on the Codex.

Code:
http://api.moreover.com/RPC2
http://api.my.yahoo.com/RPC2

Side tip = We may update the list at any time and if we search the Warrior Forum we will find many member submitted lists that include internet marketing sites.

See the only exception below.

The only exception Ping-O-Matic should be used is

1) WordPress Versions prior to 3.x
2) To Validate any new resources
3) If your web server blocks pings or is interrupted during the ping process.

Also, the main purpose of the Update Service is to notify search engines of our domain's new content. As that Ping-O-Matic resources are often over burdened our pings are not always automatically forwarded to the search engines. At times the search engines will temporarily block pingomatic.com.

This is one of the reasons why we sometimes find that our content is not immediately indexed by all search engines in a timely manner or at all (see above about web servers blocking pings).

Search engines and WordPress recommend that a "Site Map" is used to notify the search engines of any new content. The Site Map is automatically submitted when new pages or posts are published. There are WordPress Plugins for Site Maps and the most popular plugin due to its reliability is:
Google XML Sitemaps
WordPress › Google XML Sitemaps « WordPress Plugins

The internet and how we use it is always changing and especially for Internet Marketing. Keep in mind that the WordPress RSS Subscription is designed for normal blogs - not for Internet Marketing. This has become more prevalent to eCommerce and Internet Marketing since the Google Penguin Update of April 2011. This is important to Internet Marketing because RSS can be used similar to keyword stuffing by RSS Competitors. Be advised that RSS Competitors can misuse our RSS similar to Backlink Competitors.

To keep our RSS Subscription safe from RSS Competitors it is best practice to utilize a RSS Subscription Service such as FeedBurner. This is the month's buzz in the Internet Marketing Industry. Be advised that there are at present big campaigns by some Internet Marketers selling custom RSS software here in the Warrior Forum. IMHO, I would stay away from such software and stick with the industry standard, FeedBurner, until such software is proven to "not" harm our sites.
