Need a hand migrating blogger to wordpress for PIPs

I've seen people talking about it, and I installed wordpress tonight. I love wordpress, but it's a lot more complex than blogger, so I have two quick questions for yall.

1: How can you migrate your blogger posts to wordpress. Is there a script that can be used, or does it have to be done manually?

2: Does anyone have some advice on a theme which will fit with a basic PIPs site. If not I'll find one.

I know there is a simple setting that you just export or import the content from one application to the other. I have seen it and even used it, but I can't rememer exactly where it is, whether in the Blogger or WordPress settings. Big help, eh?

Someone will give you exact information if you can't find it...

I love Wordpress too - and as competition is a good thing I notice lots of bells and whistles added to Blogger since Wordpress has taken off!

I owe an apology. I should have looked a bit deeper before I posted. Here's how to do the migration.

1: set your blogger account back to being hosted at blogspot in the publish pane. Wordpress has an import tool, but it can only import from blogger.

2: Go to your wordpress, and choose tools, then import.

3: Wordpress will ask you to verify with google you want to import.

4: You should see it has 0/26 posts and 0/0 comments in the case of my blog. Click import and you're done.

** Troubleshooting note -- Mine did not refresh once I converted from FTP to blogspot. There is a button to clear the blogger information which you need to click. You then re-verify with google and everything works smoothly.

If anyone has any trouble with this, I'll help where I can.

I need to do the same thing at this time. If I am not mistaken from reading your threads you ran into some problem in the end. I am just wondering if you were successful in doing this. I am also wondering if you don't mind giving me the step by step instruction in set your blogger account back to being hosted at blogspot in the publish pane (step 1 in your threads). I suppose I could go to PIPS 30 days training, and try to reverse the process. But, honestly, I am a bit weary doing that (I am like that to things related to computer, internet, or the web), so I'd rather follow someone that has done the same thing in the past. I think steps 2 to 4 are self explanatory, and I am pretty clear with that.

Any help/guidance you or anybody else reading these threads could give me will be greatly appreciated.

OK, I will crawl out of the dark to help in this case...

First if you want to truly 'Convert' your site from Blogger to self-hosted WP it can't be done because the links are going to change. Yes you can mess around with redirects and permalinks to match Blogger URL's but in most all cases with new PIP's Blogger blogs, they are not worth worrying about. So why Stone keeps pushing that Blogger crap I still don't know, because WordPress is "THE" blogging platform.

You can import your Blogger posts into a WP blog but the links are going to be broken, or at least different. You might just want to start a new well setup WordPress Blog and keep the blogger blog then maybe copy and paste and rewrite a few of your old Blogger blog posts on the new WP blog and then use the WordPress Blog to drive traffic to your site and let the Blogger blog eventually die.

I have a theme that is the original PIPs colors with one side bar.

The only thing, I cannot give is the photo at the top, It's legal mumbo-jumbo.

You know what? I was thinking along the same line also last night. It would be better for me to just set up a new WordPress blog. So, thank you for giving the confirmation. I still have to learn how to do it, and I am glad you included some instructions on your post. You seem to suggest to me to just include both blogs (WordPress and Blogger) in my site. Is there any reason why I couldn't just delete the Blogger blog after I added the WordPress blog to my site? The reason being that at this time I have PIPS co-op adding articles every week/month to the Blogger blog on my site. And, I would like them to start adding the articles to the WordPress blog after I copy and paste the articles posted on my Blogger blog. Would there be a problem if I do that? Also, the website I should go to in order for me to start this is wordpress.org, right?

You can either move the Blogger blog off your site and back to blogspot.com or you can install WordPress in a different directory other than /blog. If you copy and paste some of the posts you might want to change the title at least and even some of the content.

You really don't "go to WordPress.org to start a blog", it isn't like blogger in that aspect but you will need to go there to download the latest version to install on your site.
