I am trying to locate a tool that will allow me to find all subdomains for a replicated website. I have been typing in site:nameofdomain.com but this only returns limited results since the search engines do not index all the subdomains (individual user sites) I am not sure if this is a programming questions but I figured this was the best fit for this question. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Justin |

I think the site command may be the only way to fins them all, unnless, somehow, they are displayed on the main page of the replicated website.. When using the site command, don't forget to use both Yahoo, Bing as well as Big G! Each of them may have found slightly different subdomains.. Hope this helps Bruce |

Thanks for the answers guys. In thinking there was such a better way, I overlooked SiteExplorer in Yahoo. This is much more comprehensive than the results from that other company that starts with G. |

Its technically possible if the site's nameserver is configured to allow it. Most admins would know to not allow it though. It's worth a quick couple seconds to find out though, heres how: Assuming you want to know all the records (subdomains) for example.com: 1. You need access to a linux machine because we are going to use the "dig" tool from the command prompt. 2. Find the nameserver for example.com with this command: dig example.com NS 3. Take the nameserver returned (in this case "a.iana-servers.net") and issue this command: dig @a.iana-servers.net example.com axfr 4. You will either get all the records or "Transfer failed". If you get Transfer failed, you're out of luck. Good luck. Joe | |
