Default PDF Download question?

I have a report that I want to turn into a pdf download. I have know Idea of where to start the process. I need to know what softwhare to use to convert it to a PDF and them how to make it a download? I do know how to use FTP to upload things to my web-page. I even know how to make simple capture pages. I am even hosting a few blogs. But I missed how to do this along the way...

Any help would be great...

Marty

What format is the report in its current state? The simplest way would be to use openoffice writer [its basically word, but better/free] and use the 'export to PDF' function. If you must use MS word, there are paid for plugins to do this.... im not aware of a free one that doesn't leave branding everywhere but i could be wrong.

No idea if you are on a Mac though

To make it a download should be as simple as uploading it [FTP], then linking to it (in most cases).

Hi Marty,

Go an grab yourself a copy of OPEN OFFICE it's free.

Import your report into openoffice and then export it or save it as a pdf

When youv'e turned it into a pdf upload it onto your server.
If you are not using some kind of download protection then make sure you upload it in a .zip folder so the search engines don't index it.

To make it available for download you just link to the file download report

Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the help...
Another quick question in creating a zip file, do I just create a folder and name it reportname.zip put my report in it and upload it to my server or is there more to it than that?

Thanks again...

Hi,

After you upload your file, you can create a link directly to the file if you are giving it away and not selling it. If you are selling it then you need to take another approach. If yu want to capture user information, like name and email, then you should either create a squeeze page or get one of the available download managers that handle "registration" and download functionality.

lLt me know more about your business plan for this file and I can give you some specific advice.

Lisa

That's it as simple as that.

Create the report, lets call it report.pdf

Create a new folder called report

Put the report.pd into that folder.
Then zip that folder up .

Ofcourse if you are selling the report, then you need to make sure it's a little more secure than that. But if it's a free report, that will do it for you.

If you're using MS Word 2007, then saving to PDF is built-in if you have MS Office 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed.

I actually written a blog post on it a few days ago.
