WP Newbie, Feature post plugin won work.

Hi there, I'm a newbie with Wordpress and do not know much html or any other programming. I'm trying to install a featured post plug in for wordpress. I choose the "Random Featured Post" plugin. I've installed it, activated, and inserted a code into the index.php file, but i does not work. I'm stuck, any other plugins i should try or am I doing something wrong.

Another note: A guy that was helping me told me that a plugin was already installed, here was his instructions but I do not understand what he is talking about. Where do I put the image url?

The code is already on the theme, so just remove what you added.

You need to add image codes to the posts you want to show in the featured section.

In the actual post page, you'll see a Custom Fields section. You need to add the Name as "articleimg" without the quotes, then put the URL to the image you want to show.

It needs to be around 590x200 in size.

You need to do this on at least 2 posts before the plugin will show.

What is he talking about?

It should be as he desribes.

Go into your wordpress admin area and edit one of your posts.

Where you have the area you type in, scroll down below that are there is a section for custom fields where you can enter your own details, as he has written down, as you can see in this image.

In the 'key' section, just type in 'articleimg' and then paste the URL into 'value'.

Once you have added the one, 'articleimg' will appear in the key dropdown list.

Yes I did get it working, but there were some bugs when i tried to use just an excerpt from the featured post, the read more link was wrong and went to a different post. So I just changed the setting to make the featured post the entire full post, not sure if I like it that way but it works. Got any ideas on how I can fix that read more link?

Go to theme and replace the_post funtion with the excerpt function..
