Hi everyone, My rss feed located at Work From Home Blog is not working and generates this error... XML Parsing Error: XML or text declaration not at start of entity Location: Work From Home Blog Line Number 1, Column 5:<br><?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> ----^ When trying to submit the feed to FeedBurner, this message comes up... The URL you entered does not appear to be a valid feed. We encountered the following problem: Error on line 1: The processing instruction target matching "[xX][mM][lL]" is not allowed. Could anyone help me figure out what the problem might be. I have had some help from fellow Warrior Jeff "Houdy" but is not able to pinpoint the problem. Any help would be appreciated as I really need to get this working. Thanks! Alan |

Line Number 1, Column 5:<br><?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <br> is not valid. (you have an unclosed root node containing the definition for the document) The first line should be <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> Line 1 column 5. <br><?xml char 5 tells you it was trying to process the <?xml bit, so the problem had to be there or earlier. |

Hi Roger, Thanks for your quick reply. How do I go about changing it so that it doesn't have the <br> tag? I haven't been able to figure it out. Thanks, Alan |

My guess is you have cusomized your feed template (wp-rss2.php) much as is described here: Customizing Feeds WordPress Codex and you have probably either put the br at the top, or left a blank line which has been auto converted into a br tag |

If so I can probably fix it for you. Alternatively, if you trust me, you can PM me FTP login details and I can take a look. | |

Here's the code... <?php /** * Outputs the RSS2 feed XML format using the feed-rss2.php file in wp-includes * folder. This file only sets the feed format and includes the feed-rss2.php. * * This file is no longer used in WordPress and while it is not deprecated now. * This file will most likely be deprecated or removed in a later version. * * The link for the rss2 feed is /index.php?feed=rss2 with permalinks off. * * @package WordPress */ if (empty($wp)) { require_once('./wp-load.php'); wp('feed=rss2'); } require (ABSPATH . WPINC . '/feed-rss2.php'); ?> |

Sorry, mixed up two threads. I should have said "feed-rss2.php", which is in the includes directory. |

Oh. And please PM it to me as an attachment (.txt file) that way the formatting won't break.
