Hey Warriors! I signed up as an affiliate for a program that provides branded stores for promotional purposes, and when looking at the index.php I noticed these tags:

sbachell, that has nothing to do with what the OP is asking, as it seems to be understood already that this means no-indexing.
soltzer, they are probably just requesting that the promotional site not be indexed so that it doesn't create a duplicate, or semi-duplicate, of sites that are going to be used for commercial purposes. Also, there is no reason for them to want a demo-site to be indexed, as it won't help them promote the site, and may just confuse search engines. My guess, it is easy to configure the site so that its content is read by search engines. After all, all you would need to do is find that piece of code, and remove it, if there is not a global configuration to do that for you. If you buy into a "branded store", be prepared to do heavy modifications, because otherwise it is going to be pretty much invisible, as it will be a heavy piece of duplicate content. It is usually better to sell these type of affiliate products (that have a shopping cart system) from a custom site. |

Thanks for the responses! Sounds like building my own site to promote the product would be the way to go, appreciate the help!

I have the following issue with the branded store.
When I see my site in the search engine, all I see is the name of the store and the URL. No Meta description whatsoever, I guess this is the same for everyone owning a branded store from Market Health. But like this, the site is easily overlooked. I emailed my affiliate manager how to solve this, he responded by saying to open up the source code and change the meta description. Next thing I could try is putting the Robots tag below the meta tag description so the search engines could pick up the description better. But how on earth do I edit this source code? All I did to get this store online is I downloaded the zip file, extracted this in the public/html folder of my domain hosted at Hostgator. And the site was born, but editing the source code and putting it back online is a whole different level for me. Any help would be appreciated. |
