Issue with site copied to new domain

I copied a wordpress site to another domain on the same shared hosting. Eventually will delete the old one but I had to copy the site in pieces due to a slow server and the script for replacing things in the database didn't clear all the old references out. I manually fixed all the issues I saw. Here is the problem. When I make a change on either site it also changes the other site. Any thoughts in where to start looking to correct that? I don't want to delete the old one until I'm absolutely sure no resources are being called from it.

Sounds like there is still just one database between the two sites.

Did you install WP on the new domain, or just copy it over?

As Jack said, it sounds like some both instances of the site are sharing the same database. Or you haven't set things up correctly and when you login to your new instance of your site, you are actually being redirected and logged into your old one ( had this happen to me in the past ).

I would recommend looking into a plugin called something like "Find and replace" - it basically lets you search through the entire code of your site, find something like a domain reference database info, and replace it all.

Use WPClone. Free from WordPress.org and foolproof. Two clicks of the mouse and your site is cloned to your new server, all URL's are cleaned-up and you are back up-and-running in less that 5 minutes.

I clone of all my sites after any major changes and in case of any emergency I can be back up in minutes flat, exactly how things were before the incident.

I have never slept so well. :-)

        Cheers. - Frank

I am using UpdraftPlus premium and it works awesome.

If you can't figure out, just send me a PM and I would help you with it.

    Thanks

In your wp-config.php file you will probably notice that you are using the same database for both sites, so when you change one, you will change both.

I use Duplicator to copy a site over ... it's free and it changes the url for you and creates the database for the new site. All done for you.
