there a lot of programming languages you can learn for the web. there is no 'best' or 'worst' so far i can think of. the most common language is PHP.

you can try adobe dreamweaver.

i dont think you need to be a great developer in order to be professional. but you need to be a professional first before becoming a great developer. its an attitude

Are you working at a job now? If so, ask what development languages are in use. Find company experts in those languages. You could pick up enough skill to improve your current career situation.
If have any prior experience in C or C++, you should have little trouble adapting to PHP and Javascript.

A lot of designer are starting to think more about the website building aspect. Adobe put out a very
easy basic drag and drop program to build website for designers, Adobe Muse, it is very simple.

Using dreamweaver is fairly simple with html and css.

Simply design some sites, concentrate on your graphic design to prove you are best Graphic designer. Web Designer is different comparing to Graphic design so you need to learn theming and go for php tutorials.

I would suggest starting to learn how to code in HTML and CSS first, then do some PHP+MySQL tutorials. codecademy.com can help you with all of that, it is where i learned everything and i've been a successful programmer for years.

you should use editor adobe dreaeaver or sublime.... i use sublime because it is easy to use and very neat .... so try sublime and you will be good to go in coding ....

if you want fast results, learn Javascript.

if you've worked with ActionScript, you probably already know Javascript. there are tons of tutorials, tools, and libraries at your disposal. since your a graphic person, you might want to see your work come to life. javascript is like the backbone and nervous system to your designs. start there and move into PHP, Java, and C.

also, get comfortable with dreamweaver, but dont worry too much. it's dying and is used far less than notepad ++ or sublime and other full IDE's like Eclipse.

Junior developers are good hires only if they can quickly grow in the position and become intermediate developers. For that to be possible you need to be looking for two main things:
1) a problem-solving mind set, coupled with a strong foundation in computer science.
2) strong communication skills. You are going to need to communicate with them to mentor them.

I would actually NOT recommend to become a web developer. There are already millions in that category; and in more than 99.99% the main differentiator is price.

Instead find yourself either a subject (migrating ecommerce applications from osCommerce to Bigcartel), a software package (the shopp plugin for Wordpress), a niche (craft people about to outgrow Etsy) or some other area and specialise there. You'd still be programming and all that, but customers regards you as competent first. And only then comes the price.

I completely disagree. My firm signed a web application contract today for $93,000 USD over the term of three months. There is always a market for a generalist web developer. It just takes a lot of patience learning the entire stack.

There are many ways you can be a web developer. One of the first thing you need to consider is what language you use. Some languages are not compatible with web developing, I recommend you use language like PHP or even use something basic like HTML. You also need to know a thing or two about database as well as it's architecture which can be a little tricky for newbies. Finally, you need to make sure that what you develop looks good, you also need to know something about web design, the proper way to position links as well as the color combinations needed for what you are developing to make it look appealing.

I'm a Senior Software Developer and I build web applications for a living. I can attest that nobody uses Adobe Dreamweaver.

I build applications in Ruby on Rails, Laravel, Node, etc.

We use unix based systems ( Generally OS X or Ubuntu ) and we use terminal for all build processes.

To be a pro, you should know your way around a command line and be able to build software using a basic text editor.

Relying on Dreamweaver props you up but, you won't know the fundamentals. Additionally I've found that it causes significant delays in the development process as it's not very intuitive at all. ( It's also super slow. )

That's where I would start if I were you. There are thousands of books to choose from. Learn HTML & CSS first, then javascript, then what ever back end language interests you most along with common relational and NoSQL databases query languages.

php is good language as it is open source.you can too learn jquery for dialog boxes being used in web pages.

and photoshop as well as adobe dreamweaver as well as flash are good.

There is a lot of Languages you can choose, it depends on what you want to create it depends on your preferences. You can use HTML, CSS, JS, and PHP when creating a website and there are lots of free tutorials online.

If you aspire to become a web developer then I would encourage you to start with HTML. Practise writing/typing each line of code as you learn.

Using Adobe software can help you make websites but you will lose the benefit of learning "how actually web works". In a long run, knowing the internals helps you understand and fix issues quickly.

Web development is working on the technical aspect of a website.And a web designer is responisible for the visual design and layout of the website abd web developer take that design and vision from static design to fully working website that is online and running on internet.To be a web developer you need yo know some basic such as HTMl, CSS, etc. There are many languages available. You can select Php as it is open source and you can easily learn it.

Hi, from someone who has been a commercial developer for the last fifteen plus years I have this advice.

Syntax is irrelevant, learn the mindset of programming
Differentiate yourself from the others wherever possible via niche development
Don't be a platform zealot - things change all the time and so do platforms
Don't jump on the latest tech; wait for version 1.1 and see if that market has embraced it
You can learn from *everyone*, I still learn things from our juniors

You become a web developer by learning.
Just pick one language, learn it, practice and go from there.

You can start by learning php, ruby on rails, python etc...
Also, learn HTML and CSS along the way, and that's that!

I don't recommend Adobe products if you're wanting to learn how to be a web developer. Sounds like you're already familiar with photoshop which is great, so creating wire frames and mock ups should be cake - that's really all you should need as for as Adobe is concerned.

As far as programming languages go, it's a matter of preference on your server side scripts, weather it be php,pearl,aspx, etc.. If you don't know where to start, I personally recommend php because of more job opportunities, but again that's my personal opinion/preference. Regardless of your server side scripts you will need to know HTML and CSS - this is mandatory to be a web developer. It would also benefit you to learn JavaScript.
