I was a member of a club that created blogs for me. The owner died suddenly and the club disappeared. The hosting website that was managed by him also disappeared. There were no emails about what to do from that point.

My question is if there is a way I can recover the websites that were created on WP. I still have the domain names and a new hosting account.

Thanks,
Beth

in that case one thing you can do is go to web archieve and download all your pages in html because there is no way i think to recover the files as hosting is not there any more .... it is also bad that you dont have any backups as you should because you are the owner .....you have to buy themes and import all your content from html into it ....i know it sounds much work but you can also outsource it if you dont wanna do it....

    Hi Beth,

I'm sorry for your loss. If the club site disappeared because the domain expired, or the hosting service has expired, chances are your information is lost. I would go to http://www.whois.com/ and search for the club domain name.

If it returns a message that the domain is available, your information is more than likely gone. If the returned message is the domain name is unavailable, click on the "Whois" button to find the registrar and registrant information. Maybe there is an additional contact person, a person you could contact for a case such as yours.

It's quite possible the site is still sitting on the hosting server. If so, you could try contacting the hosting company. I'm guessing there may be certain legal reasons why they would not give you any information. However, it doesn't hurt to try.

One thing I learned a long time ago, whenever I write a blog post or article, I always write it in either Word or a text editor, like notepad. I never write it directly on the site. This way I always have a backup on my hard drive.

    Good luck!

Do you have backups of your sites? If not, I'd recommend making your own backups going forward to prevent this from happening again in the future.

Confused what you have and don't have. You say recover ? Do you only have the domain names and never given the blogs or the blogs where hosted by them as well ?

PM the URL of the place you where getting them from.
